This GEC Northfield Harness Jack arrived in the mail today The handles are Burnt Stag. They aren't the best Burnt Stag I've seen from GEC but they are pleasing to my eye. The knife is 4 1/8" closed with a main blade length of 3" and a punch blade length of 2". Note the notch in the scale and liner above the UN-X-LD Shield to facilitate accessing the nail nick for the punch. Nice touch. I also like the way GEC recessed the shield into the scale. It sits down into the scale so that there is no sharp edge/point for your finger/thumb/hand to snag on as the knife moves in the hand when you are using it. Compared to some of the GECs of the same shape/frame this knife is thin/narrow and handles/carries nicely with no bulk. That is because this is a 2-spring knife. The main blade is swedged and has a long pull both of which set it off nicely. I’d say the main blade has a pull of 6 to 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 and the punch blade has a pull of 7 to 8 on the same scale. The mail blade was very sharp as it came from the tube and the fit and finish of the knife overall is very good. No gaps between the springs and liners, etc..

Normally, I would have ordered this knife with a Clip Blade and it was available with a Clip Blade but this time I ordered this knife with a Spear Blade. That'll make it a very handy knife to carry this fall/winter when hunting squirrels and rabbits in order to facilitate skinning.

Gotta apologize for the picture of the knife in my hand. I bite my nails and work around the place so no soft hands.

Now I really like that. Handsome spear blade with nice swedge, long pull and stag... What's there's not to like? Great score!

I love it. They nailed exactly what I would want in a harness jack.

the stag with spear blade is what i consider the ole timey gec original look. i still think the cuban frame is one of the best of the gec patterns. the decent blade polish certainly helps also. i've yet to see a 44o gec with anything but an orange peel finish. this knife makes the dogleg jacks look like toys. *Wheeet whew* (wolf whistle) - Will ya look at that hourglass figure! Talk about nicely-matched hafting.

I think you made a great choice on GEC's swedged 'n' shapely long pull spear blade, too. I prefer it to their clip point on the Harness Jack.

Great comparison Rick!!!! But ya shouldn'ta done it. Now ole Dennis Strickland (he's older than me) will have a tough time getting to sleep tonight what with visions of sugar plumbs dancing in his head.:D

Nicely gnarly and matched stag, and some kinda' magnum swedge on that spear blade!

Ya done good, ED!

Nice knife but I would have got the clip point myself.

I don't know how much experience you have with skinning game but as I said in my initial post, I plan to use this knife for skinning squirrels, rabbits, and whatever else comes along. Far easier to skin a rabbit with a sqear blade than a clip blade. I'll probably skin out over a hundred squirrels and rabbits this season. Sure, you can use a clip point blade for shinning but a spear blade makes it easier.

Ed, I just don't chime in much here but that is a gorgeous knife. I agree with the spear---right direction to go:thumbup: VERY VERY nice knife!

Ed...thats a very cool knife....Im pleased you were impressed about the fit of the knife!...as I was. That Stag on yours looks real, I think you have a damned nice knife there!
Nice main blade too being spear point!!
Thanks for sharing!

Gorgeous knife, ED! That's one heckuva spear point blade the way the swedge meets the point! Great looking knife all around!

Wow! You should name her Sophia. I will have a hard time getting that image of her, um I mean it out of my mind.

Great looking knife. I need to get a harness jack. I always cringe when poking a hole in something, and usually reach for my beater leatherman to do the task, so I do not gorilla twist one of my slipjoints wrong.

i may be old but certainly not dead.as long as a man is really looking he's still got plenty of zing.the flow of the knife & the flow of the accouterments are certainly stimulating. thanks dennis

That's a knife that'll look even nicer after a few months of using, not just patina but that stag will mellow well I believe. I'd like GEC to offer more Spears.

Might even last as long as Sophia L in fact......
