This GEC Northfield Powderhorn with Burnt Stag Handles arrived today. The knife is based on GEC's Toothpick pattern and comes with a clip blade and a pen blade. Each blade has it's own spring. The pull on both blades is about 6 to 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 and there are no half-stops. The knife is 4" closed with the clip blade being 2 7/8" long and the pen blade being 2" long. The fit and finish of the knife is excellent -- no gaps what-so-ever, perfect scale to bolster fitting. The Stag is quite generous on this knife with even mottling from side to side. All-in-all, the knife is quite pleasing to my eye. I particularly like the way GEC sunk the shield into the Stag. Both blades of this knife are very sharp out of the tube. The sharpest knife I've received from GEC yet. It is even sharper that the Primitive Bone Powderhorn I got last week.

Here is a picture of my GEC Powderhorn with Primitive Bone Handles for comparison.

I've sworn off buying any new knives for awhile. This is the knife however that gives me trouble. I love the primitive bone and that stag is equally as beautiful. Congratulations.

Well, I'll tell ya Dennis that the blades on these last two GEC knives (both Powderhorns) that I've purchased have had wicked sharp blades out of the tube with this Stag handled one being the sharpest of the two.

I swore off buying knives for a while, but this is one that really tempts me. I really like the GEC toothpick and the additon of the pen blade is an interesting take on the design. The problem with GEC is that they are adding designs I like faster than I am willing to buy them LOL

i'm hap[py for you ed but i'll see what the mail brings before i become a true believer. that stag on your gec is fantastic.---dennis

In general I don't like the toothpick pattern in any size or variant. That being said...I sure do like the looks of the stag handled one in this thread. I think I need to overlook my previous dislike and try one of these out.

I get where you're coming from and I don't particularly care for a Toothpick Pattern with a long slender clip type blade such as GEC's single blade Toothpick with what they call a Muskrat Clip blade or with any Toothpick with a California Clip, etc.. BUT this knife comes with a Standard Clip blade and that is what caught my eye. As a bonus it also has a Pen blade.

Those are two great knives, I love the sweep of the butt cap.

Yes, it reminds me of the old "clasp" pattern, which I like a lot. This one is more practical though. I hope they issue it with additional handle materials soon, something in worm groove would be nice...
