I saw a Gerber I think is new on the back cover of my Tactical Knives magazine. It is called the Freeman,it is a fxed blade drop point.Has anyone seen this and where can you get one? Thanks.

I just handled one at a local outdoor store. The fit and finish is perfect. Real nice wood handles. It has a BB finish and a nice leather sheath similar to the Benchmade Outbounder (I think that's what it's called.) It does say Taiwan on the blade. The blade is about 3-3.5 inches long. I think they said that the blade wasmade of surgical steel though. :grumpy:

I don't know anything about surgical steel ... why does it make you grumpy?

When a company says surgical steel rather than naming the steel specifically, that's market speak for "the cheapest steel we could find."

Exactly. Surgical steel is catagorized as several different versions of 420. Some Surgical steels aren't even very stain resistant.

Walmart would have the Freeman, and many outdoor sports places would too.

In New England Galyan's, Eastern Mountain Sports, and Sports Authority all carry Gerber, and have had a selection of Gerber fixed blades often. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't available in all those places...
