If the descriptions that I have fit the bill, then Gerber has redeamed themselves in my eyes. There are a bunch of new folders with FRN handles, 440C steel blades  and at least one of them is a liner lock. Then there are some new fixed blades with 440C steel blades. One of them is the new LMF. The description states that the blade length is quite a bit shorter than the original though. There are some new hunting/skinning knives and a new boot knife with a blade longer than the Guardian. Hopefully the descriptions are correct, unlike their current batch of knives. The Mini-Covert being one of them. The description states that the blade is made of 154CM but I have two of them and one of them has a box that reads the blade as having AUS-6A steel. The pics aren't up yet but if you're iinterested you can find the descriptions here at www.moteng.com . (Just tap on the "knives" logo and then the "Gerber" logo.)

thanks for your post. i got a mini-covert because of 154cm and 35.00 but have been very dissapointed with it's edge holding. i lke the knife and it's ok if it's aus6 but it is a disapointment to find out AFTER you buy. i pasted up that knife 4 or 5 times until i went to the web site and saw 154cm. thanks.

*my box only said "surgicial stainless steel blades" ???

I sure hope that Gerber is getting better. I hate explaining to so many people that they aren't what they used to be. How do you explain that to a 65yo man who's been a loyal Gerber user for his entire life?

If the rumor is true about gerber ripping off the CRK&T Carson collaboration, I wont be buying any gerbers.

well, i'll watch out for the CRKT rumor, but i don't think i'll be looking at Gerber anymore unless they change thier ways.

*i sugested this knife (mini-covert) a couple of times here and i'm saddened at hearing this news.

Don't feel too bad. I've called Gerber about the types of steel they use and they said that if it's not listed, then it is 420HC. There was a problem a few years ago with Gerber and Remington Cutlery stores. According to the manager of a local Remington store, Gerber was sending out their standard "EZ Out" models marked as ATS-34 when in fact they had 440A blades. Remington questioned this because the real ATS-34 EZ Outs had a stonewashed blade but the newer ones were coming in with a beadblasted blade. Gerber said that they "mislabled" the 440A models as ATS-34. I wonder how many people paid the extra $20 for the 440A models?
I can't really blame the Gerber people that much though. Gerber has produced great knives for many years. Their problems seemed to have manifested once Fiskars took over. :(

thanks Wunderbar, maybe they will get it together. that Fiskars thing sounds about right.
