Took it out for a maiden voyage last night.
In the water by 9 pm
Cut some bait, cut the head off an eel, cleaned some sheepsheads and a few mangrove snappers.
Came home aboout 3.
Just got up and went out to the boat.
Plenty of rust specles :grumpy:
Like I always do... soft scrub on a chamois cleans it right up.

Note to knife makers : Divers knives should be mirror polished and the handles need to be easily removed.
Lightfoot put some kind of LED/nuke light on his grips.. That is nice too.

No diving invoved, that time.
The steel is the same as the much revered 2000 Seal which had an underwater ( salt water) submersion test.
I'm in the "real world"...
Matter of fact.. tides are right and I'll be out in about 3 hours..
I'll tote my Alpha Buck with rubber grips today...
SNOOK TIME

Actually the steel on the Gov-Tac is AUS 8 vs. AUS 6 for the SEAL 2000. The reason that the SEAL 2000 performed so well in the submersion test is that it has a thick powder coating on the blade vs. the bead-blasted finish of your Gov-Tac. The powder coating actually protects the blade from corrosion and water damage.

Bead-blasting actually performs poorly in moist environments, such as on a boat in the ocean. The process of bead-blasting actually creates small divots in the surface of the blade. These small divots can collect drops of water and almost instantly start to corrode. The best thing you can do to protect a bead-blasted blade is to coat it with solvent or oil based protectant, like Tuff-cloth. We actually use Tuff-cloth to coat all of our bead-blasted blades before they ship out. However this does wear off and need to be reapplied after use.

I hope this info help you out and if there is anything else you have concerns about please let me know.

Thanks Chris..
I figured as much.
I never cared for bead blasting on guns unless the metal was too rough to finish buffing.

I'll tell ya what tho.. It's been out with me about 3-4 times and does just fine, if you pay attention.

Around my fish farm the fresh water doesn't phase it..

After the soft scrub I hit it with a coat of Mirror Glaze for my motorcycle. :D
Are you guys going to make a nylon sheath for this model ?
