New GB axe
http://www.raymears.com/Bushcraft_Product/689-Gransfors-Outdoor-Axe/

Designed by Lars Fält axe.
540grams (about 1lbs),
38cm (15in) long.

Only a single actual pic
The thing looks like a GB mini with a longer handle and a steel collar comparable to the one they put on splitting axes.
The pic lacks scale elements but it is probably very small. Weight is hard to believe.

I've been looking for a "light yet long" multi-purpose belt axe myself so i'm quite interested.

Price wise, well it's GB yet, despite the Lars Falt name it isn't much more expensive than their common line.

Link points to the Ray Mears website shop.
Not that I'm a big fan of the "exclusive embossed Ray Mears logo" but I haven't seen it anywhere else (not even on GB official site).

Looks like something between their Mini and their Wildlife hatchet with a collar added, but the collar doesn't look like it goes down far enough to protect the handle much.

I think I would rather buy a Mini and put a longer handle on it, but it looks well made and comparable to the rest of the Gransfors axes...

Bob, I disagree that the geometry looks too thick...looks about right from what I can see in the photo.

It looks like a good design to me. I think that the collar is there for protection while splitting rather that protection against overstriking.

Brian Andrews sells a similar size ax (modified S&N Young Campers Ax) for less money. The head may be a tad heavier tho. I bet he would even sign the ax for free if asked. :D

Well the collar on that kind of axe is a bit intriguing.
You cited to options. I'm thinking since the head is short with a long handle allowing more powerful blows it might reduce the risk of vertical play in the long run.

its got me wanting one, i have hesitated on axes and hatchets in the past, but i like the looks of this one, especially the metal collar

maybe not to think mut it seem like more of a flat grind than a concave and i that makes it apear thicker to me. Dont get me wrong i like granfors axes.

I noitced it a few days back and ordered one. I use axes almost every day, and this one looked darn near perfect for my kayak, and trapping needs. I will post my thoughts and maybe a few pictures when it arrives. joe

It's nice, but personally I'd prefer a handle more like the hatchet... one with an end knob for better grip. The 1" difference in handle length doesn't seem that important for an axe this size.

It's always hard to tell from just a couple of pics, but it appears to have a more substantial poll than the mini. Looks like it would be a better hammer than the mini for driving in wooden wedges etc.

IMO, its traded off some dexterity (in a choked up grip, a shorter handle gets in the way less than a longer handle) for more chopping power that a longer handle gives.

I'm not much on collars (but that's just me :D ).

Kind regards
Mick
