My new Benchmade Griptilian just came in the mail. My 3rd Benchmade so far. I did not think I would like the 551, I thought it would be too big. It really feels nice in the hand. I already have the Mini Grip and the mini Barrage.

The Griptilian is one of my favorite edc knives. You're right about the great feel in the hands. Nice choice!

Glad you like it!

I hated the full size but I loved the mini. I couldn't stand the hollow plasticky sound that the full size grip.

I've come around on my 550HG. I didn't like the hollow feel and bulkiness but I'm carrying it more often. I do like the mini-grips quite a bit. If they would just make the handles a little thinner it could go a long way to getting rid of that hollow sound. They don't need to be so rounded. I'd also like the texture to be finer.. like on the mini-grip.

Would very much like to see some Jens Anso custom scales for the Griptilian series. A yellow Ritter mini-Grip with Anso-texture scales might be the closest to the perfect production EDC...

Am I the only one that doesn't find the stock handles on the Grip offensive? I rather like the little 'clack' of the lockup.

Reading the title of this thread made me think it was going to go in a different direction.

Glad that you like your Griptillian. I've got a couple Ritter Grips. The S30V model is in my regular rotation. Not too big, carries well in the pocket and has the Axis lock (which is great).

Your correct PG5768. I should have put "My" new Griptilian. I had a hard time locating this thread...That I started.:)

I was looking at "Gripetilian" and thought you had a gripe and doing a little word-play. ;)

Pleasantly surprised that I was wrong.

Perhaps some WilkinsGRIP (Germany) would make a nice difference. I've tried the Griptilian several times at my local retail store. I like the action; not fond of the grip. I realize I'm overly-picky and everything is just opinion. It's obvious that the Griptilian is extremely popular, as is the Bone Collector series. These are an excellent buy for the money.

I think Griptilians are awesome, Ritters too.
If the stock scales are not to your liking, there are other options. ;) :D

I don't mind the "clack" I've used epoxy and split shot to fill the air gap and balance the knife, but it was for the experience, not because I don't like the design.

I've thought about using something like gorilla glue just to fill the space and see if it would maintain neutral buoyancy.

Nope you're not the only one. I like the stock handles/covers of my Griptilians -- both full-size (551) and mini-size (556).

Just realized they're brown micarta.

Need more coffee :)

Where did you get them?

I don't mind the clack that much. Makes it feel like a "work" knife. Main reason I would replace em is to make it feel like a more high end tool. Not worth it on a reg grip to me, but on a Ritter Grip new handles are a good investment for my personal enjoyment of the knife.

You are not alone. I like the sound the Grip makes. I carry the orange h2o model for work.

Sweet knife

All of the scales pictured on the Grips & Ritters, were made by me. :D
It does look like wood, at first glance. The brown micarta's have Standoffs instead of a back spacer.
