i was wondering if it was even possible to get new grips, preferably g-10, put onto my 550hg griptilian. if there are any makers here who can do that give me a shout. one thing i will say though is iwont spend mucho money on them. i cnat see myself paying more for the grips than the whole knife. i dont need the grips, i would jsut like them. so if anyone knows anyone who cna do it, tell me please. thanks all.

What kind of handle material do you want? That will help determine the overall price + labor. Is it a user and abuser? If so I'd go for something like dymondwood, micarta, G10 like you said or maybe even bone, figured wood, antler etc... etc. if it's a safe queen might put some mother of pearl or stone, fossil ivory, african ivory. or what not,

Check out the thread named "benchmade ideas". It seems that someone has finally come up with a G-10, alumunum, micarta, and/or wood replacement grips for the Griptilion. He is Kevin Wilkens of germany, one of the top custom makers around!

ya i saw him. but my god his stuff is way too expensive. 185 euros is over 300 american. i would go and buy a custom folder or a busse befor ei payed that much for a pair of grips. thanks for the advice though.

WOW, didn't look at the prices. Knew they would not be cheap, but I do not think I would pay $300 for a griptilion. You could put another $100 or $200 with that and get a custom, or high end production (read as sebenza). They do look good though!

They are absolutely beautiful. The price is high though, if you go the whole nine it's $630, for a grip.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Then the short answer is, it's not going to happen. There's a maker here (STR) who used to re-handle Griptilians, but he stopped because (without putting words in his mouth) it's time-comsuming to do, and people don't want to pay for that amount of work on a knife they spent $65 on.

Because of the recessed liners and molded scales, a Griptilian is actually more work to rehandle than a "full-built" Benchmade like a 710.

If you want a Benchmade with wood/G-10/whatever handles, pay the extra fifty or sixty bucks up front for one that comes that way. Re-building a Grip is NOT the way to get a nice Benchmade less expensively.
