Hey guys, i was looking for my next grip since i lost my last favorite, and came across this one. I have never seen these scales before and i was wondering if anyone else has or knows anything about them. It would be sweet if someone out there already has one they can compare to a normal grip. Im pretty sure Cabela's is a licensed BM dealer so im not worried about fakes at all, Ive just never seen this before.

My Cabelas Coyote Tan D2 Mini grip came in today. The pattern is definitely different. It feels smoother if I rub my finger across it, but when I grip the knife I don't really notice a difference in grip in the handle. The spine jimping has a better purchase than some of my other mini grips, but it may be because it is new.

Don't let the unique pattern dissuade you from buying.

I noticed the difference in the scales a couple days ago when I was looking at the Cabelas Mini Grips. I have been using Mini Grips for so many years, when I think of a Mini Grip, I see the old, original pattern of checkering.
Maybe I will get use to the new pattern, but seeing pictures of it, I really don't care for the look. That may change with time though...
I didn't look to see if the black and green knives have the same pattern.

You an order those scales from Benchmade by customizing a Griptilian on their website. I just ordered 5 knives with that tan color for my guys at work as a Christmas present.

I answered the wrong thread the first time. You can order tan scales while customizing a Griptilian from the Benchmade website. I ordered 5 of them for Christmas presents for work.

Do we work together ? :D Great idea for Christmas presents... Yes you can order the tan, and they do make a few variations in regular production, but those all come with a coated blade. I'm curious to see if they are changing the texture pattern on all the knives, or if it will just be on the Cabelas versions

I just looked closer the the listing on the cabelas web page and it specifically states:

"Exclusive texture for slip-resistant grip in all weather"

I think this texture change will be limited to Cabelas models and maybe just the coyote tan colored grips

Thanks. I guess I didn't look close enough when I looked at their description. Makes sense though doing it as an exclusive for Cabelas along with the D2.

Have you noticed any difference with the new scale pattern as far as putting it in, and removing it from your pocket ? Curious too if the new pattern has good purchase when in pocket, as far as wanting to slip out.
The checkered pattern has always worked great for me, but with some complaints of the clip not having enough tension, I wonder if the smoother scales will be an issue ?
I'm not worried about it because I have never had any issue with the Minis staying where they should, and am not trying to stir up the pocket clip issue again, just curious.

While I still haven't warmed up to the new pattern, I am finding my curiosity may get the best of me, and order one to see in person. I don't like saying that I don't care for things, if I haven't given them an honest in person look... OR, it would be a good excuse to drive the 120 miles to the nearest Cabelas :D
