So I've wanted a gunhammer for years and never could afford one until now. I picked it up used off the exchange and I'm very impressed so far, but I had a few questions. I've been trying to figure out how old it is and I can't seem to find a timeline where Darrel made design changes.

This one has, what I'm assuming are the FDE scales, the seller said it was an S30v blade (I see they're now made with S35VN), it has the typhoon looking pivot, and I see from other pictures that my "made in USA" engraving is in a different spot than some people's.

Anybody got a ballpark of what "generation" my new knife is?

Thanks for welcoming me into your club

Pics of the lockbar would help me identify, at least. Also the jimping on the back. Right now, I'd bet on Gen 2.

Looks like a current gen to me, or else pretty recent. On the older ones, the jimping on the lockbar didn't go across all the way.

I'm not exactly an expert, but yes, that does seem pretty likely to me. Perhaps one of the more knowledgeable folks can confirm or deny. Looks like a knifecenter blade, and they're pretty bad about updating their descriptions with accurate info, from what I've seen.

Can't pinpoint a year, but it's pretty current. The older ones had thinner handle scales and a Celtic cross pivot pin. The Celtic cross pivot pins were retired to make once again exclusive to the DDR customs. Older ones also had thinner blade stock and no perpendicular striations in the finger grooves. Lastly, the jimping on the spine and flipper are more consistent. This is because HTM/DDR changed to a different machine type to make the jimping. You will have to guess what type of machining because Darrel asked me a long time ago not to mention what he uses.

The older models had jimping that weren't perfectly perpendicular and more at an angle.

Thanks for the help guys. This knife is growing on me more and more though I have already decided that I think I'd prefer the max glide version and a torpedo blade
