Greetings All. I am new to the forum and would just like a couple of opinions to help me decide on my new EDC. I have it narrowed down to 2 choices.

1. Emerson CQC 7
2. Benchmade 912

Thanks for any input!

I can't imagine you being disappointed with either of them.

Personally I'd go with the Emerson for the simple fact that taking it apart doesn't void the warranty like it does with the Benchmade.

Practically I don't think there is much difference.

Be aware that the Emerson is a chisel edge though, and some people don't like that. What this means if you don't know is that the blade is completely flat on one side, all the grinds are on the other side.

My main problem is that I am in Ft. Worth, TX and the couple of knife retailers here do not stock many Emerson blades. I would really like to handle a CQC 7 before purchasing one.

Any leads on a retailer in my area that might specialize in Emerson?

Greetings to a fellow TX resident. Welcome to the forum of all thing blades.

Between the 2 you mention. I would go with the Emerson. I can appreciate a nice chisel grind.

One thing you need to ask yourself.. what will you be using the knife for?... You will get a better opinion from the Forum members. From the looks of the knives in question.... maybe you are thinking Self-defense.. maybe not..for which I would then say the waved Emerson CQC 7 would better serve you. Waved knifes are pretty fun and they will ruin your pants pockets too if you have OCD like tendencies .. LOL.

Welcome to Bladeforums

Every month in Fort Worth there is a gun & knife show at the Will Rogers Center. Several dealers there will have both knives, giving you a chance to handle them before you make a purchase.

I recently moved to Texas and I have not found any
knife shops like they have in California. Not much here.
For EDC I would choose the 912.

Your shopping in the wrong place. Here in California they are weapons, you go to the gun or knife store.

In texas I'm told they wear their knives not carry them, you are looking for some manner of a clothing store. ;)

Thanks for the input.:thumbup:It just so happens that I have missed the last two shows @ Will Rogers and will not be able to make the one at the end of August. Based on the feedback, I do not think I will be disappointed in the Emerson.

 cast my vote for emerson they are excellent knives and call me crazy but i dissasemble my knives that i use from time to time to clean them. great knives at fairly reasonable prices, you wont be dissapointed.

I do think you will be happy with the Emerson. They are one of the very few "hard-use knives" that actually live up to the name. If not for the chisel grind, they would probably be my top EDC brand.

Cavanders Boot City and Callahan's General Store both carry knives.
Mostly Case though.

Texas is also big on Sporting Goods Stores carrying them.
Don't forget Auto Parts stores.

Well I did it, I ordered the CQC 7. Just wanted to thank everyone for all the advice and opinions!

I really enjoy the forum. I think I am addicted, can't seem to stay away from it! Is this normal behavior?
