Hi guys. Finally diving into getting quality knives. mostly looking for some EDC and hiking knives use. My first couple of knives I am looking at are the Busse TGULB competition finish with G10 grips and a NMSFNO. Anything in particular you veterans can recommend for me?

infi steel isnt stainless buts it's more stain resistant than most, a light coat of oil goes a long way on I fi steel.

Welcome to the forums Matt.

Price range? Looks like you are willing to go to around $500ish for a TGULB. I didn't see a current price for a MNSFNO. We do have a For Sale section here with a Busse sub-section if you haven't seen it. https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/busse-swamprat-scrapyard-knives-for-sale.804/

Personally, I think 7"+ is a little long for a hiking knife and especially an EDC knife but you get what you want.

I feel obligated to mention that I hope you know your local knife laws to make sure you can EDC a fixed blade.

I've heard great things about INFI steel but never experienced it myself. Quite frankly, they are out of my price range. Do you have your heart set on a Busse?

Thankfully Arizona is pretty knife friendly.

Go visit Carothers Performance Knives, they have a sub forum here and Big Chris on Instagram or FB. He has a sub forum here also, but doesn't keep up with it.

Welcome to BFC !!!!!!!

I EDC a Busse. I keep mineral oil, or CLP on it. It took a few months of neglect for it to develop a little surface rust but was easily removed with steel wool and then coating it in oil.

Busse Twin Gemini is a great knife. I just got the Forsaken version with G10 handle. It's coated, so I only have to worry about oiling the edge. I had to get a leather sheath for it and finding the right size was kind of a pain.

Out in a dry climate like Arizona, you might be able to get away with no oil ever. Just clean and dry it after use. If you do need to use oil, choose a food grade oil if you intend to use the knife for cutting up food or hunting. If only for wood processing, you can use any light oil. If you ever develop rust spots and want to keep the knife shiny and new looking, just use a little flitz metal polish. INFI is supposed to be pretty rust resistant.

Yep, this is all I do with my INFI Busse SHE2: put a thin coat of mineral oil on it whenever it goes back in storage (in its Kydex sheath), and don't worry about it when I'm using it on a camping trip, hike, etc. I live in the PNW so it's pretty humid here, and I've never had any issues.

Carothers has great carry knives...the EDC series...I've had several; am now down to just one EDC2 with a 3.3 " blade: Crucible CPM 3V at HRC 61-62 with a fully optimized heat treat and with a thin blade behind the edge... In his YT video, he chops a 16-penny nail as well as splitting a concrete block...(using a small sledge)..probably not your daily itinerary. p.s....and the blade edge survives...
I also have some small experience with BUSSE and his proprietary INFI steel... a great knife available in many models and sizes. Generally, BUSSE has VERY thick edges for very rough work purposes, but you can also find smaller models such as the Game Warden, Park Ranger, Whiskey Warden..some of which are quite reasonable for daily carry with 1/8" spines and a few other steels such as Elmax.
You cannot go wrong with either one...
