Greetings to all!

I have not been on this forum for a while, I had heard the name but considered the knives out of my price range and never looked in to Busse until...

A local to me BCUSA camp out/get together a few months back,in my little patch of Eastern Arizona. I was granted permission to play with/ use a Busse. Needless to say it out chopped my SM III CS Trailmaster ( a factory second, I try to be frugal with user toys). Blade was 10.5 inches and no I do not recall the name/ model of the Busse. I could ask the guy who loaned it to me but right now I am trying to learn more about Busse and Kin.

Then last Friday I traded into a used Howling Rat Little Mischief with Buy Brown kydex. Very impressed with this knife and I think It is my new daily carry blade. I actually shocked my friend who owns the knife shop by identifying the knife in the display case and told him I had play with it. 10 minutes later I had the image of a mint condition model pulled up on his computer.

I look forward to learning from all of you
-Joe

......Welcome

As much as you can welcome someone who was here 4 years before me!!!!

When shopping on a dime, be sure to check the Scrapyard and Swamprat line up, best values to be had!!

I see you mention chopping, you should check out the 1111 at SYKCO. But run now ! cause these blades seem to multiply fast !!! You start with one and end up with a dozen before you know it ! :D:D Congrats on your score !!!

Congrats on a nice little Rat....Welcome beware of the Swine Flu Very contagious....:D

^--- This!!!
Congratulations on your first Rat! And, welcome to the madness that is Busse and 'kin!!! :D

Welcome to the Busse family! The Howling Rat is a great first choice  Congrats :D

Welcome :D I recommend locking up your credit card ASAP!

If you want a big chopper you need to go and check out the Battle Mistress Line. They are made for chopping and are just an awesome feeling, looking, and performing blade. If you want to save some $$ buy a used one, beta on it and if you ever want it re coated, satinized, new handles, or whatever you can always send it to the shop for an overhaul.

Also the Swamprat and Scrapyard blades offer great blades with similar specs and profiles (different steel with a great heat treat protocol) the same warranty, and great performance at a more affordable price.

Happy hunting!

Thank you all for the warnings!

While I would not mind owning one of everything that is not what I am about. Just looking for something in INFI, with a 9+ inch blade, been looking and finding lots of stuff I am interested in (knifehunter has some good looking stuff). More than likely I will end up with a knife in the Battle Mistress line. Used/ user is just about what I want or one of the Combat Grade models as they seem to be a bit less cost.

Wife already said when I find the one I want I can get it. very close to pulling the trigger on one but, it just is not doing it for me in the looks department.

The different handle styles all suit folks differently, you may have to try a few to figure it out. . The Anniversary rerelease of the straight handle Mistress is available from the Busse Website now. If you do some reading/searching you will see what people like about the various models and that may help you decide. I would also suggest you do some reading about standard handles vs magnum handles, they are quite difderent.

No matter what you choose to start with the exchange is always there, a lot of people are in the same boat so you can always buy/sell/trade into something that suits you better if you end up wanting something different.

Robocarullo,
Thank you for the advice.

I called my friend that loaned me the Busse at the camp out to find out what model it was as it fit my hand very well. He mentioned he might be interested in a trade but I am not sure if I am ok with just going out and buying the knife he wants to trade for it.

I'm head over heels in love, so I had Garth make me one at the Custom Shop just like I wanted. :)

Now that I have a couple "Spare" NMFBM's I'm going to use the CG to take care of some "business..." ;)

And if I had the chance, I would order another (#4) satin/LE with Tigerhide or Snakeskin from the Custom Shop in a hot second!

eveltcat,
Thanks you for the pictures. I am leaning towards the Bush Whacker Mistress and the NMFBM, I like the looks of the CG you posted.

the ASHBM in both finishes that is in production is out of 5/16 blade stock and thicker/heavier than I want weight wise. The 1/4 inch stuff seems to be closer to the weight of knife I want to carry.

QUESTION for you...
The ASHBM LE with hand shaped handles. How do you get that on the production model? Email to Customer service or am I missing a option on the product page.
