Howdy:
Over the last 10-15 years or so, I have been steadily drawn to the collecting of handmade functional art such as fountain pens, mechanical watches, and more recently, knives. I have found these activities to be a welcome relief to my normal day-to-day activities as a high-technology management consultant.

I have been lurking on this forum for the last 6 months or so and have found the information here to be an invaluable aid for a beginning knife collector/addict. To date, my knife collection is small and without much focus: I guess I am in the "one of everything" stage at the moment. Here is the current line-up:

Production Knives: Spyderco Navigator 2 with SpyderEdge (great example IMHO of the Spyderco emphasis on ergonomics and getting big results out of a little blade)

Benchmade MiniGrip 555 (Pardue modified sheepsfoot): nice example of a mid-sized Axis lock model.

Kershaw MiniMojo (Nice example of Onion design and assisted opening)

Possible future purchases: Spyderco Kiwi; Spyderco Dodo; Kershaw Offset, CRKT Van Hoy SnapLock; Kershaw ET

Custom Pieces: Elishewitz Python Button Lock in SS with Carbon Fiber Inlay; Obenauf Model 2 with Ivory Micarta Scales; Zscherny Wharncliffe Stainless Damascus with Mammoth Ivory Scales and anodized Damascus bolsters; Ruple three-blade Whittler with Mamoth Ivory scales; Theuns Prinsloo folder with Damascus blade, Mokume bolsters and Cocobolo Scales

Possible Future Customs: Koji Hara Pearl folder; Chamblin multi-blade; Shadley multi-blade; Doc Hagen triple-action folder. I also like the work of Greg Lightfoot, Kirby Lambert, and Ken Steigerwalt.

Best,
Mitch

Hi, Mitch. Welcome.

I think you'll find that collecting knives is a nice way to blend a findness for the old (one of the most ancient tools) with an affinity for the new (continually improving and advancing technology applied to develop new concepts and variations). That's partly why I enjoy collecting and enjoying knives.

You'll like it here (and everywhere else you go with a nice knife in your pocket).

Peace.

Mitch,

Nothing wrong with that. I've been "accumulating" knives for over twenty years and I'm in the same mood. I do have a couple of mini-collections of specific knife brands, but I still want one of everything else too. :D

Best Wishes, and welcome!
-Bob
