I have all my fixed blade and 1-hand folder needs well covered and feel like grabbing a few traditional folders. I was thinking about getting a GITD bullnose, Powderhorn, and either a white owl or half congress in ebony, bocote, horn,or something green. Thin and lightweight would be a plus, and not too hard to open. Size doesn't bother me as long as it isn't heavy. What are some of the more durable scale materials? I'm very rough on things in my pockets. Sound like a good place to start? Thanks

My favorite GEC handle material may very well be their spring green jigged bone. You can find it with very dark and rich shades of green and lots of black.

I like ebony and bone. Both are very durable.

Stag is a favorite but most stag has most of its color on the surface and it will wear down and change.

As far as if they are easy to get rid of IDK, never sold a knife. I guess it depends on why they aren't your favorite.

Enjoy,

Kevin

Acrylic is tough stuff but it scuffs easlily and that could be an issue if it's GEC LG+ and there is white or black pearl laminate under that acrylic. The use of pocket sheaths (of various designs) are a big help if you want to EDC stag, horn, or acrylic and keep it looking good. This ends up being a very personal choice - my serious EDC work and camping slippies both have ebony covers.

You might take a look at the prices of successful sales in the Exchange and on eBay. Some folks remove the prices after they're sold but some still leave them up. They're a pretty good reference.

Resaonably priced GECs move well in the classifieds section, IMO. As for a durable handle material, you'd be hard pressed to beat ebony. Thin & lightweight + GEC brings the 68 White Owl & 61 two-blade congress to mind. Both are easy to open.

Most of my GECs came from members of this site. Yep it'll sell for a reasonable price.
