After looking at the PX, I decided I want a pocket knife. I want it for EDC, but I do like the tactical knives I was seeing. I like the SOG Spec Elite, the Flash II, and the Trident. I checked online and they have the Benchmade Griptillian. None of these sell at the exchange for over 70 bucks. I've decided that's my limit. I'm hearing some negative things about SOG folders on another forum, but review sites rate them pretty well. Nobody had anything bad to say about Benchmade.

Give me opinions, advice, whatever.....

my $0.02:

i've EDC'd a Leatherman Wave for a decade now.

far more useful as an EDC tool than any single blade folder and very, very Sheeple friendly.

don't listen to all the anti-SOG b.s .. first of all most of it is because of their terrible 2010 lineup of knives they copied off other designers. Just watch some reviews on youtube and you will know what to expect. I have both flash2 and trident and both are solid.

there are a lot of people who don't own SOG knives and never will simply because of SOGs blatant and obvious copying of other companies designs.

i am one of them.

i carried a spec elite for a couple of years and its a decent folder. it was before the vg10 blades and i didnt care for the aus8, didnt seem to hold the edge very well but i was pretty hard on it. the lock is alright but benchmades axis is much quicker to deploy for me, maybee its the smoothness of benchmades action. i carry a 710 right now and wouldnt go back to a sog.

I have Pardue and a Ritter, Benchmade Griptillians and I love them both. Of the knives you've listed it's no contest - buy the Griptillian!

The Flash II is an excellent design! I just got my Spyderco Caly3 in the mail today and I love it! It's probably a little bit out of your price range though. Perhaps the Spyderco Delica?

I'm glad you live your life going by other peoples opinions, sambo.

it's got nowt to do with other peoples opinions. i saw the SOG catalogue and thought "gee, a lot of these look like Spyderco offerings" a long time before i responded to any "anti-SOG" threads.

i would much rather pay a little more and support a company that actually tries to innovate and come up with new designs than support a company that simply rips off everyone elses ideas.

i don't have that attitude only when it comes to knives either. i'm the same with most things i buy.

You can probably still find some g-10 Endura's for about $70 if you look around. Full flat ground VG-10, and I've found that the handle fits quite nicely in my hand - which is larger than average, but not enormous.

SOGs and Benchmades are really nice.

Check out the Spyderco line, the Enduras are hard to beat.

Of the types you listed, in a general order of my preference:

Miini-Griptilian 550HG - Love it.
Flash II - Surprisingly strong for it's very light weight.
or the similar Aegis
SOG Twithch XL - slim solid knifes. Interesting top lock and flipper.

Spyderco Tenacious is very good. Almost a bargain at its price.

Don't have one, but I keep seeing positive comments about the Ontario Rat-1 being a real bargain at the $25-30 price range.

If you are in the military, check out what you are allowed to have before buying anything. Having bought it at the PX ain't necessarily good enough.

A rat1 folder will surprise the hell out of you with its quality, hard to find a better deal in that price range.

From your wording it sounds as though you are military? For a knife that can easily be used with gloves its hard to beat spyderco, Endura or endura wave would be some of my top choices.

What are your planned uses of this knife?

thanks for bolding the words "lot" and "long" sambo, that truly does counter the 20 year history of SOG and the several good knives worthy of edc they have put out not including new items for this years catalog.

Get the Griptilian. Or mini, if you want. Just an opinion on the Trident, I think it's got a lot of blade for the weight but I just trust the Axis more.
