Just a quick introduction post as a new thrower from MN. I've been throwing for less than a month but really enjoy it a lot. I'm a little older (over 50) for a beginner, (or so parts of my body are telling me) but have taken to it quickly as far as I can tell. Meaning.. whether or not I have a proper/good form, I've been in the 90% range of sticking with 1/2 spins and full spins. That said, I also have learned the hard way about different knife styles (length/weight/thickness/shapes/etc...) making a lot of difference in distance, release, etc... So, not having a consistent throw down yet, it's been a lot of experimenting and confusion at times.

I knew going in that safety was paramount, but that didn't stop an awkward ricochet flat off the log round straight back (and fast) stick me in the ankle/foot even though I tried to dodge it. I didn't realize I got hit with the tip as it felt more like the side like a thump. In any case I zigged when I should have zagged, and wound up with a small puncture in my dorsalis pedis (?) the artery that goes from the ankle to the foot. Bled like a hose for a bit, but it's better now. Point is, (no pun) that was a weird bounce, and a bad dodge, and the hiking boots I had on just missed protecting me by 1/4"... So, while I was aware, and trying to be as careful as possible, accidents can and will happen. I'm working on my dodging skills when I am doing close up throwing...

Other than that, I threw the other night (beautiful weather finally here) for a little over an hour with some good sized knives and wound up irritating a tendon/musle in my lower forearm/elbow.. Man it sucks getting old and being out of shape... I need to build up to long throwing periods I guess...

So as I get more into this, I hope to learn from many here, contribute where I can, and just have fun with this new hobby.

** Lastly, any other folks near the Twin Cities here in MN? Would be nice to get together and throw with someone from time to time.

Thanks, Mark

Thanks Renaissance, I will I'm sure...

FWIW...
While I was letting my right arm rest today, I got bored and decided to try left handed throwing. I am not ambidextrous at all, short of feeding my face, but using just pure techniques and proper steps like grip, stance, windup, release, etc.. I was surprised to find out I could throw and stick (1/2 spin only so far) fairly accurately left handed. I did note I threw with less power and snap, so I had to back up several inches from my right hand distance. Makes you realize how much is actual technique vs. natural ability. I suppose some folks are gifted, but I'm not one, and especially not left handed.. Small wonders... :)

It's always good to practice with both hands!

Surprisingly, the only thing I can throw accurately with my left hand is knives! Better than any ball.
