What would be a good SOG knife for camping? I would like to be able to use the knife for maybe multiple purposes. I like the Leatherman and Swiss Army Knives.

Howdy toddyvol and welcome.:) You looking for a folder or fixed blade? If it's folders, then I would go with one of the AutoClips (Mini Outdoor is a good one) or a Serrated Magnadot. And as for fixed blades, the SEAL Revolver would be a good one to have. Also the Field knife and Field pup. Actually most of the SOG fixed blades would be good. It's just that the 3 I mentioned slice food really really well.:D My Field Pup, Autoclips and Revolver have made many a Dutch Oven Dinner. :D

I think Heber makes some good recommendations. My camp knife is a SEAL Pup, though I would think the revolver is a more versital choice. Almost exactly the same size, but since I also carry a folding saw (old Felco pruning saw, by the way), the Revolver would give you a two for one.

On the folding side, I would also look at the Flash II, though any of the SOG folders would be fine. I also carry a SOG Pocket Power Tool because of its light weight. It does everything I need (except for scissors) that my bigger tools doe, but in a lighter, smaller package.

Good luck.

I'll wade in on the side of SOG fixed blades since I only have fixed blades in my collection and cannot speak re. folders.

For myself, the Tigershark is at the top of my list as a "camp" knife. Big, beefy, heavy, sharp as a razor. I've done some 4"-diameter limb chopping with mine and I was more-than-impressed with how easily the work was done. No hand shock either. A great all-around knife.

2nd on my list is the SEAL 2000 since to me a "camp" knife is supposed to be big&beefy for all those whackin' and hackin' chores, but delicate enough to serve double-duty as a carving knife and steak knife..... and wildmanh certainly knows the truth of that statement. And since I've used my SEAL 2000 in all those roles, I would give it credit as filling that middle-ground position, a notch below the Tigershark.
(Not that the Tigershark hasn't been my knife of choice here at the house for carving of a dinner roast....).

So what did I actually take into the field 2 weeks ago when I was hunting ?? Tigershark, SEAL 2000, SOG Bowie, and SOG Tech II .... nothing like being overdressed and ready for anything.

Cheers,

Carl

Hello and welcome to the forums!
Personally a good all around knife is the X42 Field Knife for most chores.
It certainly won't chop as well as a Tigershark, but I guess it really depends on the size you need, and how far you are carrying it...;)
Let us know what you decide!
