Just joined the group and thought I would introduce myself. I have been reading over the rules and past threads making sure I dont step on toes. I'm US Army retired and since retirement I have started tons of hobbies. I have always been interested in knives and collecting so here I am. I dont know a lot about what is sought after or is great. I buy what I like and think is a good price. Today's purchases was a case hunting knife set (big knife and little knife) and a york cutlery little fixed blade number 663. Thanks for letting me join I look forward to learning and contributing to the group.

welcome!
and thank you for your service!
it pays to have a complete understanding
of what it is a particular hobby can do for
your continued well being;
besides the immediate gratification of
ownership.
and yes! always buy only what you like.
do continue to keepi things managable.
it pays to ask questions about knifestuff
before splurging on anything beyond
the norm.
but it is understandable, for many have
fallen into the deep end when it comes
to expenditure,
if only there was an idiot-proof way to manage a knifenut's priorities
which is probably why the bladeforums
is here to help sort out any lost soul
trying to map out a happy retirement
enjoy your hourly visits here :-)

collecting is kind of pointless, you will just end up with a bunch of knives sitting around your room that you never carry but paid money for, better to just keep a few good users around and take your time and sell what you dont use.

Welcome! You'll find lots of good info here, along with a whole bunch of enablers. In no time at all you're probably going to find yourself staying up late at night, secretly browsing online knife retailers sites, like a porn junky, struggling to keep yourself from hitting the "Buy It Now" button.

This is a very silly statement. We do things all the time purely because we enjoy them and with nothing else to gain. If you enjoy selling off the non-users and carrying a few, that's a great way to do it, but unless you never spend a penny to watch TV, go to movies, listen to music, eat food other than to survive or enjoy yourself in any way I think you should reassess the 'pointlessness' of collecting. It's worth doing something just because you like doing it and for no other reason.

well i agree, maybe for me collecting just stopped being enjoyable once i realized how much money was just sitting around my room lol

Welcome to the forums and thank you for your service! If you love knives and all things sharp and pointy you'll find yourself right at home. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

I'm trying to figure out the posting pictures thing. I must be a little slow. I will reread the instructions again.
