Hi All,

I've been a member of the forum for awhile, and I've truely enjoyed learning from all the members from the various sub-forums. I'm a knife maker out of Virginia, and i've been making knives since 2004, mostly on weekends. Now that I'm retired I have the great luxury to actually start a knife and work to completion. What fun! For example, I could never do a hollow grind, now it's a breeze, and a real high to get those crisp sharp grind lines I've always enjoyed. I primarily make bowies, because to me they are pure ole fun to make. I forge on charcoal in the summer, no matter how darn hot it gets, and stock remove in winter, no matter how cold it gets, and I make my own sheaths. I am a fanatic on fit and finish, and while I am getting close to vey good (IMO), I still have a way to go.

Anyway, I thought you guys here on the custom forums might like to see some work from a back yard guy who tries hard to make a perfect knife (a feat I have not quite achieved yet-one little imperfection here, or one there, send me back more determined). The invitation ? I recently created my gallery on the forum. You are most kindly invited to visit and comments are very welcome.

Thanks,

Dave

Great Dave! A link to your gallery would be very useful, and I, of course, am interested in your leather work as well.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I sure don't need an intoduction to your work! I've always loved your sheaths, especially the lined rolled inner lining. Just great.
Not sure how to post a link, I simply asumed people would just click on my name at the top of the post, which would take them to my profile. Then click on gallery at the right of the screen.

Dave

Thanks for the instructs, Dave. Well, everybody has to have a favorite and that polished bone bowie is mine. That fringed, brass tack sheath is mighty good looking also. Thanks for the show!

Paul

Thanks, Keith

That knife was donated to a org. to assist vets. It rests in good hands, and I appreciate your kind remarks. I will be working under an experienced knifemaker sometime this summer to learn how to make damascus-that will really be fun!

Yes it is good to see another Virginian on Bladeforums.

hwpaintballer you are just up the road from me, I'm in Abingdon.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Hi David.
Welcome to the customs forum. I Like your knives.
Where is Delaplane Va? I'm in Hanover County.

Thanks Paul,

I like the bone handled bowie too. Here's what happened, one day as I was walking from my house to the shop I passed my dog, who was laying on the grass chewing on a bone. I walked a few steps past her and turned around. The bone had a really nice flair. very gingerly, I got it away from her and took it into my shop and cut it in two with my bandsaw, then I walked back out and gave it back. You should have seen her look, she sure knew I was trying to pull one over on her. As it turned out, the bone was a nice fit and polished beautifully. It has nice color and no matter how polished, it has super gripability. As for the leatherwork, I've read and re-read all of Chuck Burrows tutorials, and so many of my sheaths for frontier rugged styles. I hope to learn leather carving soon.

Thanks for the link, Charles. I appeciate it. Duh, someday I'll get it:)

Paintballer, thank you for the kind words. I think there are a lot of very excellent knifemakers here in Virginia, and I've also met some smoking hot makers out of West Virginia and Pa. as well.

Yeah Abingdon isn't that far away at all, this kinda of reminds me of the day I discovered New Grahams Pharmacy in Bluefield was THE New Grahams store I was about to place an online order on.

Hi Guys,

Delaplane Va., is in Farquier County. If you take the Markham exit from Rt 66 you'll be in my area. Farquier County is about 60 miles west of DC. If I'm right, Hanover County is in the Richmond area???

Charles and paintballer (never done that, but I bet it's a hoot), I don't know where Abington and Richlands are? What Counties?

For those of you not from ole Virginia, you'll never guess what a big state it really is.

Dave

Abingdon is in Washington County we are in the Southwestern part of the state along the Tennessee border.

Richlands is in Tazwell County which is about 40 miles North of us

Charles

Thanks JP. I appreciate it.

WildMike, great name, and thank you.

Charles, yes, I thought you guys were down south a bit. Nice country.
