Long story here, hope you don't mind the intro.

I am a 34 yr old high school teacher, barely ever even worry about my next sandwich let alone a survival situation, but I love watching the survival shows and always have. Growing up I didn't have a lot of chances to do outdoor stuff besides exercise. My step-dad was a hunter, but I never did stuff with him. Always wish I had.

So, earlier this summer on a bicycling forum a thread was started about pocket knives and a guy posted a pic of his Izula. I instantly knew I wanted one. He gave me the link and I started to look into the knife. That led me to looking into the company, and that led me to wanting more. It took me a while to make a decision (Izula? Hest? ESSE-3? ESSE-4?). I ended up pulling the pics from the knifecenter website, scaled them to actual size, and asked the step-dad. He told me to get either the Izulu or the RC-4, depending on the size I wanted. Couldn't make that decision, so I bought both.

A week or so later, I saw where one site had the Izulas for $39, and my wife wanted the pink one. I also had decided I wanted the arrowhead. I ended up ordering 3 arrowheads for a gift I am planning. Another thread for that.

So, I have wrapped my Izula a few times and, after scoping out several threads here, ended up with a gutted wrap around just the edges (wife's suggestion). She won't let me wrap hers yet as she wants the pink to show. Looking for pink paracord for that.

Dropped a ton of cash in a hurry here, so not adding to the fold any time soon. Hope to find some reasons to actually use them as well.

Look forward to learning from you guys.

good luck with that !!!

Welcome to the forum and knives in general.. Planning time with your knives is always cool no matter what the tasks.. Your wife's right on track keep her that way:D

again welcome aboard.... btw, check out blunt4truth on youtube he's what made my eyes open up to the Izula which then led to another Izula which led to the HEST, ESEE 4 ... luckily there are other manufacturers to fill in the void between my ESEE purchases or I'd have 'em all by now... :D

Thanks all
Watched some of those videos myself during the decision making process. They actually really helped me make my decision.

Nice choices, I love my 4 but still gotta get the Izulu. Good luck with not planning on buying any more soon. The H.E.S.T folder is coming out shortly. If you don't know what that is, DO NOT look it up or you'll get that before you know it. Welcome to the forum.

welcome! that's a major haul for a new esee owner! cough...junglas for christmas...cough :D

Welcome suchmuchfun. I'm in my final year of college going for a teaching degree myself. Hope to teach high school history soon.

Hmmm, that pic makes me want to put my 4 on my MOLLE back.

Man I love the 4. Congrats on a great blade.

suchmuchfun, knife using/collecting can definitely get under your skin, and in the best possible way. ESEE, in particular, with its' products and fan base, is about as much fun as you can have without breaking the law. :D I've chased the Busse, CR, SwampRat, Strider, Becker, and other models I've had my eyes on, and come 'home' again to do the same with ESEE(which will always be RAT to me!!). All I can say is enjoy the ride, because it's a very enjoyable one. You may get to where you start attending the bigger shows in or near your area. That's when you REALLY get bitten!! I made my first Blade Show this year and it was truly like being a kid on a candy aisle, especially with all those BIG name companies and individuals under one roof. You're one of us now, the addicted, and as long as ESEE and its' cadre of followers (excuse me 'RAT PACK') exists, you will have something to look forward to.

That's how a lot of us started. I am into the outdoors and target shooting. I started seeing people's knives on other forums, and that brought me here. So far I have picked up some really nice knives and learned a lot about buhscraft, survival and the outdoors in general. Its a great hobby, and this is a particullary knowldegeable site. You can't go wrong with the ESEE products either. You made great choices.
