With the upcoming Christmas holiday and my birthday, I as considering a new knife as a present. I'd like to get a folder that I can carry concealed if I wanted. It is intended as a general tool and as a last ditch self-defense weapon.

Due to NV law, the blade length needs to be less than 3" and cannot have a double cutting surface (dagger). My preferences are for a plain (non-serrated) blade.

The new Emerson CQC-14 certainly fits the bill, as due some of the Karambits with more traditional blade styles, but I was curious if there is something else I should consider. I don't mind paying extra for something that will last a lifetime.

What do you recommend? TIA

cant go wrong with the emersons. the cqc7 has a 2.9 inch blade i believe. the 14 is really cool, but on the larger side due to the full size handle. the hd7 is also nice.

how about a small sebenza?

Thanks for the tips. You can get some really exotic Sebenzas!

I have to admit that a feature I really like of the CQC-14 and the Karambits is the way the grip and the back of the blade flare outwards, almost forming a pommel. It seems as if that would help prevent slippage during a thrust.
