First of all, holy smokes!!! This is the place I've been looking for! How did I not find you guys before I started this little project? Anyway, been poking around a little, learning, thought I'd share (and probably get bashed for doing things wrong, but that's okay, I'm here to learn).
I wanted to try my hand at making a knife, and I am no metal worker, maybe a mediocre woodworker. I remembered hearing old saw blades made for good knife stock, so I figured I'd give it a shot with an old rusty table saw blade. The one I used was a non-carbide tipped plywood cutting blade.
I took a ton of pics throughout the project if anyone's interested, here's a few:

Working on the sheath now :)

I'm very interested in your thoughts and criticisms. I think the saw blade maybe wasn't the best choice in metal, but I made every effort to not let it get too hot, and it seems to be holding it's edge as well as I expected. I polished it up to a mirror finish, but it stains like crazy, at least in places. Looks kinda cool, like a rainbow effect.

I really like your work on the handle. It looks great from here.

Looks like a really nice profile and I also noticed how beautifully sculpted the handle is.
Nice work.
Hopefully the steel will work out for you.

Stu said almost exactly what sprung to mind for me as well.
Way to go!:)
