I just wanted to say hi and show off my first knife.

I have been wanting to learn to forge for a long time, and finally got the chance last month to visit Ed Caffrey for a few days to take his basic forging class. Ed is one of the nicest guys around and a great teacher as well as bladesmith. He was so willing to share his knowledge, and he saved me from ruining a couple blades, more than once. He really wants his students to succeed, and works towards that end.

Anyway, I now have a few more blades to finish out, and wanted to show you guys what Ed helped me to accomplish.

I have to say that to anyone thinking of taking Ed's class, it would be time and money very well spent!

Nice "first one". Which wood did you use for the handle?

When someone like Ed is babysitting and looking over your shoulder, cattle prod in hand, you can't help but to put forth a good effort. Thanks for the kind words. Hope the next ones come out anywhere as good!

I have to agree, Ed's a great guy to learn from. Looks like you put his instruction to good use. Welcome to the madhouse.

Hahaha, I was just about to say "I wonder if he knows Caffrey!" Looks GREAT!
I'm guessing you used 5160 for your blades? Your finished knife turned out really nice, good work.
Ed was my instructor also and I also did my Journeyman Performance Test with him.

Thanks guys for all the encouragement.
The steel is 1084, and a nickel silver guard.
I have been reading this forum for years, and it is really great that now I have something to post, and soon will be posting more. It has been pretty inspiring to see the work of all the great smiths and makers around this place.
