Hey guys,
I'm new here, so not sure if this has been covered but I was wondering if there is a 'how to' on making your own bow and arrows, be cool if the arrow heads were the AH-1 as well! I'd love to have a go at this, but not to sure about any aspect really, like making bow stings, the type of wood for the bow and the arrows, attaching the heads etc. Any help would be great!
On another note I want to say I've been coming here a while and really enjoy this forum! lots of great info and great people as well, I have been reading heaps and learning lots, as soon as I master getting pictures up I'll get some of the hikes I do in my little corner of the globe, Western Australia!
Have a good one!

Hobbex has some very good videos of the process

A simple search will reveal his other videos that show him making a bow & arrow heads from a broken bottle.

Kind regards

Posted an answer over in your ESEE thread about this topic, but I'll add it here as well to make sure you see it.

I picked up a series of books for my son called The Bowyer's Bible. Here is a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Traditional-B...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1284148042&sr=8-1

It has a ton of information on making bows, arrows, and the like. He has been completely engrossed in them. He spends a lot of time each day reading them, watching videos on Youtube, and going out in the yard and working on making his own bow.

His goal is to create a fully functional traditional bow and arrows that he can use to hunt with.

Here is a link to a Youtube video from a bowmaker, Ed Scott. It is a three part video that my son and I found very interesting. Not a ton of instruction as far as the how to of making a bow, but it gives a very good insight into the mechanics and what you need to consider when constructing one.

Good luck. Post pics of your completed project.

As far as going into the woods and making a bow, bowstring and set of arrows, a much easier project to make and use accurately, IMHO, is an atlatl and darts. The atlatl is simpler to make than a bow and requires no cordage. The darts are pretty much the same as arrows, but longer. Accuracy and power, with practice, can actually be better than with a bow over longer distances because of the dart's mass.

Making your own "bonera set"? Awesome. Sorry I have no online sources other than primitive archer forum. I used Bowyers Bibles with advice from long-time archers, those really are very good books. I've made every piece of tackle required several times, only not while sitting in the woods.

I never mastered cordage. I feel it is one of the most important pieces. The cast robbing effect of a poorly made overweight string is quite obvious. I gave up and used linen or hemp.

There really is no end to making arrows. Doing everything from scratch is challenging. Harvesting a turkey or goose is a good place to start:) or something to do while rest of your materials cure out.

It should be great fun-good luck

I made a bow two winters ago, just to do it. I cut an Osage sapling, and notched it for the string. I brought a bow string along. Then I made an arrow with no fletching or head just a sharpened straight stick. The bow worked surprisingly good even though it was not very symmetrical.I shot it once and the string slapped my forearm hard. That was enough.
