Hey, guys....I'm a new member here, but I've been following Blade Forums for years. I am a career firefighter in a medium size VA city and I do remodeling work on my days off. My favorite knife company is Benchmade. I like Spyderco, but I just had a terrible experience with their service dept. and they are currently out of favor with me. I've owned about a dozen spidies over the years. They make fantastic blades, but my situation fell through the crack of their warranty. But according to them, business is business and they won't be getting any more of mine. However, I still own a VG-10 delica and a 1st gen paramilitary.
But back to Benchmade. I currently own: 806 D2, 975 Large Emerson, 720 Pardue, 940 Osbourne, and 551 Grip. I have a Rukus on layaway. I also have several fixed blades and CRKT's....along with slip joints. Just wanted to say hi and keep all the good info coming. I'm going to post a specific question later.

I'm also a big Benchmade fan and have most of the Benchmades you do. I also have a number of Spydies. You either like a Spyderco model or hate it IMO. The ones I have I like. But it's Benchmade that I really like the best.

Welcome and thanks for the intro.:)

I love their knives (Spyderco) but I felt like I got the shaft.

Welcome, friend!

Hi, new guy.

Benchmade's customer service is fantastic. I sent in a blade for resharpening (before I had a DMT diamond hone) that was all sandy and gritty from a trip to the beach. All I asked for was a sharpening, but they cleared out all that sand and the action was as good as new.

Never had to deal with Spyderco's customer service.

CS is so important when you buy a knife, and should be a major factor when someone chooses to spend their hard earned money on a product. The horror stories I've heard about Strider's customer service has kept me from buying any of their knives.

Mine was a unique case...a repair that I thought should be covered....and wasn't. By default, it was defective materials on a $150 knife. Their solution was 30% off MSRP....hardly acceptable. 30% off MSRP is more than I usually pay for a knife. I felt they should have repaired or replaced the knife. I don't think it ever got bumped up to Sal's level.
