Afternoon everyone. I'm brand new here at the forum and thought I'd quickly introduct myself. I'm 38 years old and am new to the staggeringly huge world of knives. As a kid, the only outdoors knife I ever knew about was Buck. Now that I'm looking to start a small collection of general use outdoor knives, I've been learning as much as I can and have decided to stick with Buck initially. The quality and number of different models available have convinced me to stick with a legend.

I've got 4 Buck Knives today:

Alpha Hunter 110 Folder (black polymer grip)
560/110 Titanium XLT Folder
Alpha Dorado - Rosewood Folder
Pro-Line Alpha Hunter - Rosewood Folder

Seems as though I'm really attracted to the Alpha Hunter models, eh? ;-)

On my wish list is:
Mayo TNT 172
Koji Hara 204
55 Folder
505 Custom Stag Handle

Thanks for the great forum and for all the knowledge that's been shared.

Mike,
Welcome to the forums and especially the Buck site. You sound like a perfect candidate for membership in the Buck Collectors Club. If you will email me your snail mail address, I will send you some literature. Also, if you visit buckcollectorsclub.org you can download a membership application.
Hope to hear from you.

Welcome to the forum Mike! I can't blame you for being attracted to the Alpha line, they are a great set if I don't say so myself. I hope you'll find this place to be fun and informative.
Take care,

Welcome to the Buck family of users!!!

Welcome.

It would be an interesting study (maybe) to see how many people 'round these parts started out with a Buck. Everytime I'm in the market for a new knife, I look at EVERY Buck out there first. I guess we stick to what we had and loved first.

Larry,

I appreciate the response. I've already "found" the Buck Collectors Club info and mailed off my membership app this morning. I'm really looking forward to learning and experiencing as much as possible through the club.

Thanks,

-Mike

Welcome aboard mike. Have a good time. :D

Fudo and everyone else - thanks very much for the warm welcome. I've already learned quite a bit in a short time thanks to this forum and the experiences that folks like you all have shared.

Having the fine gentlemen from Buck personally participate here is worth it's weight in gold to me.

Thanks,

-Mike

Welcome Mike...I too am relatively new here and I must tell you that you've stumbled upon the greatest bunch of people you would ever wish to meet. They are always more than willing to lend a helping hand or idea where it may apply to Buck's great knives. The knowledge base here is staggering to say the least. I count myself fortunate indeed to have found this group of fellas( and maybe ladies...ya never know...LOL ) who excel at being the finest pool of information and support a person could ever need. Bucks are the best there are and this group is the embodiment of that quality...Have fun.

Hi MikeZ, welcome to BF. A lot of great info here, I think you'll like it.

Well, lets get things started! :) I see you have an Alpha Dorado. . . Would you mind sharing with us your impressions of it?

Thanks Blue Sky. Very nice people here.

You asked me about the Alpha Dorado. Please understand that my impressions are un-schooled as I'm new to knives. What I will say is that upon first use, I immediately liked it more than my standard Alpha Hunter. As a general purpose outdoors EDC, this knife seems so perfect. It has a nice weight, very solid construction and strong sharp blade. The Rosewood scales are at the same time classy and comfortable. It's 20 percent smaller than a standard Alpha which puts it almost in pocket-carrying territory rather than requiring a sheath. Speaking of the sheath - it's an extremely sturdy leather "side load" model.

I'm becoming more and more aware of these other knife companies and don't even get me started on the whole "tactical" trend - but for the life of me, it sure seems like Buck has their head on straight - lots of choices, great designs including the old classics and modern collaborations (Mayo, etc.) along with terrific quality. As a newbie, I'm really impressed.

Welcome also Mike,

Hang in there, your minscule collection will grow :D

Seriously, it is addicting. I have totally lost count......

I'm a little late on the welcome wagon Mike but welcome anyway! I have been a Buck Collector's Club life member since 1991 and have lurked here for awhile before finally posting recently. Everyone here is very helpful as far as I have seen. I collected anything and everything for awhile but now only have an interest in Buck. I have even gotten my wife into Buck-she has a Tiny Titanium, a 703 and recently got a wood handled Taclite and loves it (even the holes!) Enjoy the site!
