Hello everyone. My only brother KDucky(user name at most knife forums) passes away at the young age of 59 this past April from an apparent heart attack..on our still-living mothers birthday no less:(. He was an avid knife collector, seller, user, etc. I also am/was, but not nearly to his level. I've since immersed myself in knives to make sure I give his collection justice in regards to selling, keeping, etc. He had 300+ knives (all on an Excel spreadsheet, sans a couple) that was listed at an overall $22k worth. That of which included 4 Busse, 2 Fehrman, 4 Dozier, 4 Mike Irie, 2 Off the Map, 4 Chris Reeves, 2 McDonald, 4 Massey, 4 AG Russell, 4 Randall, 3 D' Holder, 2 Fallkniven, 2 Emerson, 3 Bill Burke, etc etc. Almost all in new-never-used condition. I've kept several, but there was so many.. Anyway, after months of research online, lurking here and other sites, gun/knife shows, etc..I'm down to 1 knife. With such a wealth of knowledge at this website, I was hoping someone here might give some insight on this knife regarding the mfg'r, steel used, etc. Especially since I'd like to keep this one.

Anyhoo, its an NE(?). Those initials are on both the blade and sheath. It has a hollow ground blade thats exactly 4". AOL is 9". A unique trait is the full tang blades thickness is tapered thinner as it goes toward the hilt. Not unlike a blade is. Also has grooves cut in the main finger groove, in the blade as well as the handle(looks like linen Micarta). Factory edge is sharper then average for a well made knife. Heres some pics.

You can see the thickness tapering here, starting early being very gradual(3/16" to aprox 1/16).

Thanks for taking the time to look
Jeff

Welcome. Sorry to hear about your loss.

I don't have the maker, but I do have some info.

First. That tapered tang isn't unique. It takes a skilled make to go through the trouble of making a knife with a tapered tang, but it isn't "unique."

Also, that knife was not made in a factory.

Very handsome knife.

Thanks for the welcome and info. Thats more then I had before. I'd not really seen a tapered tang like this till now. ..but that's no surprise at this point:o. I was thinking it prolly was a custom knife since I couldn't find anything anywhere, which is very rare these days.

Thanks again for the info.

I'd suggest perhaps putting this over in the Bernard Levine sub forum on this site, it's amazing what those guys can identify...

I cant help you, I have no idea, but I've been searching google images for the past 45 minutes trying to find any info on the maker or anything, your a good brother and I'm truely sorry for your untimely loss, my mother has also went threw some very hard things over the past year, that no one should ever have to endure. Thanks for doin right by your brother and taking the time to learn about each piece and just generally being a good brother, you honor his memory. Good luck to you sir.
