Found this site this morning and instantly joined! I am on the fence about buying a CRKT "Ignitor" AO knife. This would be used for an EDC knife. Does anyone here have any experience or knowledge of this model? What are your impressions? Is there any others out there I should consider that are in the same price range? I have another CRKT that has/is serving me well, just want to try something new. I always thought CRKT was a good brand with a good price, but a lot of the threads here seem to suggest otherwise.
Thanks for your help!!

There are better options at a lower price for budget EDC knives. Look into the Spyderco Tenacious, Kershaw Skyline, Benchmade Pika II. All fabulous folders for under $30.

The Ignitor is a decent blade, but most people would agree that CRKT is almost always outclassed at that price point. AO is overrated, in my opinion. If you must have AO, I'd rather have a Kershaw Blur or Shallot for a little more than the cost of the CRKT.

Welcome devinsdad!

CRKT has been...um...spotty in the past, however many have enjoyed their CRKT knives. That said, the King of AO knives is Kershaw, which are great quality, excellent value and backed by a customer service that is one of the best in the business. Give them a look, you won't be disappointed.

Definitely look into Kershaw. The fit and finish on their knives is impeccable, their customer service is amazing, and IMHO they are the some of the best bang for your buck knives around.

For the $40ish dollars the ignitor costs I'd recommend looking at the Kershaw Shallot (can be found with the Sandvik 13C26 steel for around $30, which IMO is a much better steel than 8cr14mov).

Also, check out the flipper knives. They are, for all intents and purposes, AO knives. Definitely check out the Kershaw Groove, Zing, and RAM.

Welcome to the forums:)

<$40 some great knives are:
Kershaw Leek (AO)
Kershaw Shallot (AO)
Kershaw OD-1
Spyderco Tenacious
Kershaw Zing
Kershaw JYD

Hay! Kershaw needs to change the name from "Needs Work" to "Ugly-as-Sin". cuz I don't think it needs that much work. Crazy knife.

Yeah, it's one of those knives you actually have to hold to appreciate so let me change my previous statement by saying, don't look at it,just see if you can get your hands on one to try it out.

Hello and welcome to the madness!

Going with the rest here: try looking at these brands -

Spyderco
Kershaw
BokerPlus

spyderco
red class benchmade
kershaw

I've handled the Ignitor but never used one. I seems like a nice knife for $35-40.

For that price range though I highly recommend you at least looks at the Kershaw Skyline and Buck Vantage Pro. Both US made if that is important to you. The Skyline is my current favorite EDC knife followed closely by the Vantage Pro. The Vantage Pro had a premium steel in S30V which is an upgrade from the Skyline's Sandvik steel. Both have G-10 handle scales. So why is the Skyline my fav and not the better equiped Vantage pro? Well, I find the fit better on the Skyline alone with the blade shape and it is lighter at 2.5 oz.

There are others too that you can consider like the Spyderco Tenacious and smaller Persistence. These are Chinese made knive like the Ignitor but of very high quality.
