Hello guys...

This is my second post ever on this forum. I am very new to knives and actually, got interested in them thru my 17 year old son.

The following are the beginning of my knife collection:

Protech/Emerson CQC-7
SOG Vulcan VG10/San Mai steel folder
Boker Kalasnikov 74' Auto
SOG Flash II
Cold Steel Kobun
Faux "SOG" Flash Tanto (Fake Chinese copy)

I included the "fake" SOG, because it has actually gotten some pretty good reviews, for being a fake, rip-off type of Chinese copy. I actually have this knife in hand; and it feels, looks and cuts pretty good. Probably some sort of Chinese 440 steel equivalant, maybe 8Cr13Mov or such??

Welcome to the forum! Why'd you make a second introductory topic? I didn't notice until I saw your profile page...

Just pointing this out, but a LOT of people absolutely hate the manufacturers of knives whose designs are copied from 'legitimate' makers.

I notice no Spyderco knives in your collection! Have you given any of them a try?

i believe its taiwan actually. they are good knives but being made over seas is why i dont buy anymore of their products, i have a hard time trusting and supporting something not made right here in the states

While I support everyone's right to choose what they spend their money on, I have a hard time understanding the hard line against anything made in another country. I have and buy things made from China, Taiwan, Japan, etc. Most of my electronic devices are from other country's. I buy what will give me good service and hold up to my needs.

Now I am as Pro USA as the next guy, and don't want to loose jobs to foreign country's any more than necessary. But to not buy something based solely on country of origin, does not make sense to me. If it is sold in this country by an American country, then there are jobs supported by my money. I am not trying to start a controversy over the topic, or hi-jack the thread, just injecting my opinion over the "I won't buy it because it is made in China, Japan, etc". What if those folks would not buy something that was "Made in the USA" just because of where it was made? We (as a nation) would miss out on a lot of import sales.

Just my take on the matter.

Blessings,

Omar

I've derailed a good many threads, myself, so I don't want to sound self righteous, but the "Chinese Copy" topic has been well-discussed.

Welcome! You seem to have an interest in Tanto-style blades. So, in the tradition of Bladeforums, I would like to help you spend money by suggesting the Benchmade Nimravus, or Nim Cub II. Both are fixed blades, and both have Tanto versions.

If you're REALLY looking to spend money, take a look at Greg Lightfoot, or Anders Hogstrom. Both of them make Tanto-style knives, although Greg's work has a more "modern" spin than Hogstrom's.

I also make it my business to suggest Columbia River Knife and Tool. The Carson M-16 series has a couple Tanto offerings, and way up the spectrum is their line of collaborations with James Williams.

^^ Another awesome tanto is the Benchmade LFTi - excellent ti frame lock folder with amazing steel.

Welcome again by the way.

Check out some Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw and ZT.
SOG is an okay company but I've only ever had two that didn't have extreme blade play or extreme flaws.

For some reason you didnt list a single ESEE. I'm sure this is an oversight and I'll wait while you edit your post so i can see which ones you still havent picked up yet. ;)

That's exactly the attitude the has got the American economy in the mess we're in.

If you don't see the wisdom in searching out products made in America by American workers then you are backing the outsourcing of America's once strong manufacturing base.

And if you bother to try American goods, you will find that they are generally of higher quality, and offer better value in the long term, when compared to the imports.

Just one old school American's opinion.
