I have owned about four Spyderco Enduras over the years,
and have managed to break the tips on three of them, I'm
wondering if the new ones with VG-10 will be stronger than
the old ones.

I don't know if a different steel is really the answer to your problem. You might want to examine how you're using the knife, and see if a blade profile that doesn't have such a needle-like tip might not better server your purpose. Sounds like you could use something with more beef at the front end, like a Wegner.

I agree, it sounds like a use issue. The only tips I have broken with any knife (Spyderco or otherwise) was when I used it to do some fine prying (some washers out of a faucet).

There are other knife designs better suited to hard use at the tip, like the Rescue, Rescue Jr. or Snap-It EMT knives. All of these have sheepsfoot tips that are ideal for prying. Better still, they are at about the same price point as the Endura.

The Wegner, as mentioned, would be a good choice for hard-use but not-prying.

I agree that you need to think about the way you are using your knives. Tip breakage is usually the fault of the user but 3 tip breakages is definitely the fault of the user.

With that said, the new Endura will also have a beefier tip in addition to a change in steel.

You should look into a small multi-tool that has a better tool for prying, then your Enduras won't be so afraid of you.

LOL@send the broken ones...

Anyway... I have to follow the crowd on this one. Tip breakage is a user goof, not a manufacturing goof. I shoudl know... I' break mine off all the time : )

The only knife company I know that tests their knife tips (or at least they used to) is Cold Steel... but my general impression was that they worry more about the steel than the design of the knife.

Not that they're terrible, they make pretty good blades, (from what I've seen) and the few I've had have taken a beating... I just like the feel of... well, almost anything else, a whole lot better. Perhaps they could learn something from the current trend in custom collaborations....
