Hello,

I'm new to the forums here and wanted to both introduce myself and thank you all for all your helpful input on the subject of knives. I also have a couple of questions about knives and this site. I've read a lot of the threads here, but there is too much to read all at once. Hopefully someone can give some input or point me in the right directions.

First- I've recently started experimenting with knifemaking and just placed an order at KnifeKits.com. John, the manager, answered the phone and was very, very friendly and helpful in showing me everything I needed to get started on their folding knife kits.

Has anyone here had any experience with this site? Or with making anything from their kits? Is there a thread here on that topic?

Second- Where should I look to buy or sell custom tactical-oriented folders?

Thanks again for this forum, and in advance for any replies.

I just received my first order from them a few weeks ago, and I was very pleased with the entire process. Everything went very smooth, and I even had a pleasant experience when I called their Product Support department. I ordered a sheet of the Textured G10 Handle Material, and I'm pleased with my order; I will definitely do more business with KnifeKits.com in the future.

I have there DDR2 designed by Darrel Ralph. Mine is the older style and is a little different than the one on there site. The kit was well made and easy to assemble. I bought the blue and green G-10 scales from them also, they fit well and look nice polished. I wish they had a kit with high end blade steel, that would make them about perfect.

Thanks for the input. I felt like they treated me very fairly, and i didn't feel awkward about admitting that i was just getting started in the knifemaking world. Everything i'd read about them prior to my order was positive and my experience backed that up.

I got one each of the DDR3BL and the Tac-S. I'm anxious to see how they look. It's also cool that the kits are already so well-machined. I want to learn knifemaking, but i don't want to have to learn everything from forging to shaping and grinding and heat-treatments all at once. With these kits i can get some immediate gratification and work backwards into the deeper intricacies of the art.

How much time did you find yourself putting into the assembly? I'm estimated 20-30 hours, but it might end up a lot more. I'd kinda like to try bluing the steel first.

And has anyone heard anything about MolyFusion?

Cheers-

TDK
