Ok just signed up, nice site with tons of information. I am not a collector and only know a little about knives. I own a Dozier folding hunter that I have used and been happy with for years. I am very impressed by the small sebenza and want to buy one. I would use the knife around the house and carry it on my off road trips in my Jeep (main hobby) which take me all over. So it will get used and carried around. Money is not the main issue, since I own only one knife I don't mind spending a bit on a second. Any thoughts on whether to get a wood handle, plain, classic leather, graphic, etc. Doubt I could go to far wrong with any choice but would love some input from the experts. Thanks in advance and no flaming the new guy like they do on the Jeep websites.

Welcome!! You have great taste in knives!! That is a very tough decision! I love the graphics; the dog paws and the night song Sebbies. I am sure others will chime in.

If you're looking for a rugged sebbie and don't want to worry about scratches and dings then micarta is the way to go. It will provide a better grip even when wet. I was actually in the market for a wood scale model when I came across a good deal on a small micarta at a gun show. Couldn't pass it up  and now I'm glad I got the micarta instead.

though you really can't go wrong with a plain regular or classic either. My small plain regular seb has been the best carry folder I've ever owned, and it's going into its fourth year in my pocket. It'll scratch up some, but I like the laugh-lines personally, and you always have the option of having it re-furbed and brought back to pristine condition.

Just me, but for a rough-use and every-day-carry Seb, I'd avoid anything with polished slabs (ie wood inlays, graphics). Others would say I'm blaspheming!

Professor.

Indeed  For rugged use go with the micarta. :D

Hi,
I've got a Dozier Folding Hunter also, a left-hand model with jigged bone scales and I find it to be an excellent, built like a tank handmade folder. However, I also own 3 Sebenzas and 3 Mnandi's and find them to be equally rugged with a precision fit unequaled in the production knife world. My large and small working Sebenzas have plain titanium scales. My other small Sebenza, a limited edition model has curley maple inlays and my three Mnandi's have African Blackwood, Ebony and Mastadon Bark inlays. I have no hesitation in recommending a CRK folder. Being familiar with Bob Dozier, you are surely aware of his preference for Micarta scales. This would make for a great around the house knife. The small is a good choice since your Dozier Folding Hunter is already on par with the large Sebenza. Good luck with your first selection, it probably won't be your last.
