Hi there. I have been lurking for a while and recently took the plunge and bought a RC-4. I live in Nova Scotia and spend a fair amount of time in the woods. In particular my two dogs and I typically spend a couple of hours a day hiking deep in the woods around my home. I have run into a couple of bears and a young lady was recently killed by two coyotes last month, so I feel much safer with my RC-4 on my hip.

I have always been a fan of folders, but I think I am converted - this thing is a tank, without being too heavy. I have always been nervous about doing any serious work with a folder, envisioning the lock letting go under heavy use. Not any more, I think the hatchet and machetes can stay at home. I am impressed with the quality and just bought a firesteel as well. I can even picture an Izula taking the place of my Kershaw Leek as my EDC. Here is a pic from today's hike...

Welcome, it seems the RC-4 is a gateway knife. Pretty soon you'll want another RAT. BTW I have a kershaw leek and the Izula. The Izula is a much better working tool. The leeks are sweet but I would hate to break one.

Welcome aboard! The RC4 is my EDC balde. These little things arwe tough as nails and much more versatile than most would think. I was a little uncertain of the handle before purchasing mine but was assured by Jeff and others of the amount of design work they had done. I am glad I got it. They did an excellent job on the RC4.

Welcome to the family! I know that you just got your first RAT, but I bet in the very near future you will be posting a new thread showing us your next RAT. It's a sickness that we all have, but it's a good one! Enjoy your RC-4.

Enjoy your knife, I also have the RC-4. Just recieved an Izula and it is also awesome. I will use this knife alot and highly recommend it.

I don't fear breaking my leeks, but they're just not working blades. Awesome little knives, but I honestly only carry them when I'm wearing a suit.

Thats when i carry mine as well. While I like to think it is less intimidating than this fixed blade, when you flip it open to cut open a package or something, people step back. Dont think I will be carrying the RC-4 around the office, but I could probably tuck an Izula away...

Welcome, and wow it's cool the rc-4 on your hip makes you feel safer towards a bear... Personally a 44mag on my hip makes me feel safer in big bear territory.

We only have the tiny black variety here (200-500lbs) and they prefer hand-to-hand combat - which is good since neither people or bears are allowed to carrry handguns here.;)
