Hey guys! Long time looker, first time poster. Been looking at getting a BK9 for a while now. I have a Condor Golok and El Salvador and looking at getting another big blade. How do the machetes compare to the BK9? Do I need another chopper? Also, saw the tweeners in another thread. They look awesome. Are there any specs or release date? I can always use another ~4 inch blade. Looking forward to what you guys have to say!

Welcome to the Becker Forums and Bladeforums!!!!

The BK9 is a good chopper, but good for some fine work too. Don't get me wrong, carving spoons is hard, but you can do it. I like it as my big blade choice for the woods. I have machetes, but I tend to lean towards the 9 for its handling. Its a personal thing, but no law says you can't have both.

Tweeners are still a while out, those were some protos that Ethan had at his place. The final cuts are still being determined.

The ESKabar is a good choice for a BK opener, its cheap, tough, and handy. Makes a good EDC fixed blade. Either way, Beckers are more knife than your money buys, whichever model you choose.

Don't forget the BK7, she goes anywhere and does anything.

Welcome to the forum SoCo, we're all happy to have you! You really cannot go wrong with any blades from the Becker line. I have the 7 and the 2, and love them both equally!

welcome home sir..

how do you like the golok? is it carbon version? I'm really leaning to get one sometime, never enough machetes..

I only have the bk7 and have really put that sucker to use and have tested it both in chopping and battoning and its really quite impressive, I'm not a big fan of clip point designs but this has proved not to bother me as I thought it would, I've battoned a whole nights firewood and it still sliced paper without much snagging, very impressive.... I've actually tried to break it while battoning through knots and its still in one piece.... !!

SHHH, did I mention I only paid $60 shipped.. !! yeah the sheaths a joke but it's functional and does the job, besides I'm not much of a gear queer anyhow, I just like functional tools..

I really like the golok. It is carbon steel. Comfortable handle and perfect size for backpacking. Haven't got to do a lot with it yet. Looking to put it to good use this winter, after football season.

How does the handle on the BK9 feel? Does it get slippery when wet? And whats the problem with the sheaths of the 7 and 9? Saw in other posts where there are some issues. As long as it covers the edge, I won't have a problem with it.

the handles feel great in hand, and of course will get a little slippery when wet as will anything but offers excellent purchase do to ergonomics of the end of handle, some call it the 'ball end' which allows you to extend your grip, grab it at the 'ball' and chop..

makes my 7 chop rather well, I love the grips on these things feel like an extension of your hand..

the sheaths are fine, I just thing some people trip to much on this, they work just fine just aren't as high quality as some of the others out there, like kydex etc..
