I'm 56 and I've put a lot of knives through some pretty hard use. I've always admired traditional designs and high quality materials and craftsmanship. Tomahawks, bowies, puukos, to name a few. I recently bought an 18" WWII and a 16.5 " Chiruwa Ang Khola. These knives have got to be one of the best values out there, period. Design is excellent and quality of materials and workmanship all are far out of proportion to the cost. A person could easily spend 10 times the price of these H.I. khukuris, and would probably end up with something far less functional and durable.

I dont hang my knives on a wall or fondle them and then put them back in a drawer. I am surrounded by forest. I live in a town with 500 people. We have no gas station and no store, not even a stop light or street light. The winters are cold and I burn wood for heat. I put these knives to the test and chopped well seasoned sugar maple and some very dense oak. I went at it with a fury and vengeance that would have destroyed anything less than "expedition grade" tools. Both H.I. khukuris were in perfect shape, with no edge deformation of any kind. When I chop seasoned rock maple like a demon possessed lunatic and the steel is anything less than ideal, it WILL show its weakness. Both knives were still sharp and still had a decent edge, even after what I would consider outright abusive chopping.

Again, my hat is off to you, Yangdu. You are the "Patron Saint" of all people who REALLY need a good "Chopper"...

Great accolades Mo, well deserved as well. I have a HUGE tendency to acquire too many items to provide a proper review on all. Firearms, knives, swords, chainsaws, cameras.... To me, HI product is like the Freedom Arms world of revolvers but in blade form. I don't think a higher honor could be bestowed, at least in my world. We may disagree on one thing. Auntie is not a Saint but an Angel. ; ^ )

Good write up, Mo. You're still a spring chicken to me, but your experience is what we have come to take for granted. I've had a few khuks from other purveyors, but out of all of them, I have only one remaining. And guess what? My KLVUK is better than it by a long shot.

Yea, these knives are as tough as they come, and auntie Yangdu is one heck of a woman, barring none.

Welcome mo and congrats, now you just need a 15" AK and a 18" chitlangi and a 21" chitlangi and a farm knife and a 25" kumar kobra and a foxy folly and a AK bowie and and and....

Demon possessed lunatic. Brother is that you? I didn't know I had one but mom always said she found me under a rock so who knows.

Thanks for warm welcome, everyone. Yeah Philllll, I just ordered two 15" Ang Khola last night. One horn and one wood. The older of my two daughters spends a lot of time hiking and camping in the desert and arid mountains out west, and she really loves a good knife. She'll be getting the horn handle for Christmas...The younger daughter doesn't appreciate good edged tools at all, but we love her anyways...

Ahahaha well, you win some you lose some I guess. But don't feel too bad, outta my whole family, probably extend as well, I think I may be the only one who owns a single knife worth more than $100. My dad appreciates a sharp knife, but he can't sharpen to save his life and he knows it. If I gave anyone else my waterstones, they'd probably get used as book ends :b

Welcome to the forum, seems like you'll fit in nicely around here.

From one nuB to other welcome Mo!! Get ready for some wild conversations & beautiful blades :)

some children with major disabilities like that, with love, patience and a good deal of training can be turned into useful members of society, please do not embarrass her by pointing out her flaw to potential suitors, or she'll never leave the nest. i found my son matured eventually, at about 40. he still rides bicycles tho. i blame the environment. california.

It's not the CA environment, because I don't even walk to the post office box, which is just down the street, about 80 yards away. Bicycle? Mine went the way of the black hole basement, as soon as I got my first car sometime back in the 80's...lol. Not all of us, are health nuts, some of us are just folks who love firearms, and knives, and don't really trust our LEOs to do things right, and depend on ourselves instead.

don't know why he turned into a health nut. i'm definitely not. to be fair, his is a mountain bike & he goes off-road. if you see a 6.5 ft. husky-ish sandy blonde guy in his late 40's riding past you on a mountain bike cussing with an alabama accent, it might be him. he's in the SF area too. he was brought up alongside guns & hunting down there and used to like sharp pointy things too. married a SF girl, he may have to hide some of his more colourful opinions...
