I'm 56 and I've put a lot of knives through some pretty hard use. I've always admired traditional designs and high quality materials and craftsmanship. Tomahawks, bowies, puukos, to name a few. I recently bought an 18" WWII and a 16.5 " Chiruwa Ang Khola. These knives have got to be one of the best values out there, period. Design is excellent and quality of materials and workmanship all are far out of proportion to the cost. A person could easily spend 10 times the price of these H.I. khukuris, and would probably end up with something far less functional and durable.
I dont hang my knives on a wall or fondle them and then put them back in a drawer. I am surrounded by forest. I live in a town with 500 people. We have no gas station and no store, not even a stop light or street light. The winters are cold and I burn wood for heat. I put these knives to the test and chopped well seasoned sugar maple and some very dense oak. I went at it with a fury and vengeance that would have destroyed anything less than "expedition grade" tools. Both H.I. khukuris were in perfect shape, with no edge deformation of any kind. When I chop seasoned rock maple like a demon possessed lunatic and the steel is anything less than ideal, it WILL show its weakness. Both knives were still sharp and still had a decent edge, even after what I would consider outright abusive chopping.
Again, my hat is off to you, Yangdu. You are the "Patron Saint" of all people who REALLY need a good "Chopper"...
