Got a new SMKW catalog today. It has NEW York Knife Company Hammer Brand Swing Guard Lockbacks in pearl and mammoth ivory for $89.99 & $99.99. I thought Taylor owned the rights to all Imperial Schrade products. Does anyone know about the New York Knife Co.?The knives have the old Hammer logo on them.

Thanks

hi, i think these knives are made by bear cutlery, usa,or camillus before they closed, anyway look like nice made knives, thanks

This is something that really bugs me. It just seems totally wrong to be using the tang stamp of a company that hasn't existed for almost a hundred years and isn't even remotely related to Bear or certainly not SMKW. Are they revived patterns? No. And they probably couldn't copy one unless they bought a knife off a collector because they sold all the history of Schrade when they dumped the boards on Ebay in the name of the almighty dollar.Hell at least if they're going to build them they could use some of that blood money they got from the sale of that fine collection and open a corner of the old plant in Ellenville and give some of those poor cutlers thier jobs back before the town disappears. New York Knife, Walden Knife Company,et al are fine old companies that should rest in peace. Besides, if I owned a cutlery plant and I was making a mammoth ivory knife, I'd sure want my tang stamp on it, not one that SMKW owns the rights to. Paper is all that's left of the old Schrade now: Paper ownership rights to names long gone, friggin useless certs of authenticity, what a bunch of crap and the more I think about it the more pissed I get so I'm signing off.
PS- Wing, sorry I used your thread as a venting board, it's just that damned company (SMKW) could have done things so much better.

I believe that Kevin Pipes, DBA SMKW, owns the NKC trademarks. He had several patterns made for him as SFOs by Schrade some years ago, so these are likely made for SMKW by whoever. Bear & Son, AKA Bear MGC, has made other knives for SMKW using some names leased from Stewart Taylor, DBA TBLLC, notably the Schrade Walden knives seen in the tubes. Some of these were also made by Camillus for SMKW. Case owns thos trademarks used in their family series, about six defunct old cutleries. Camillus own...ed Western, and Imperial owned the Hammer Brand acquired from NKC after they went bankrupt.

I should have named my son George Herman Ruth.He could have gathered up
old baseball memorabilia and signed it Babe Ruth and resold it for big bucks.
And it would have been Legal !
