New Handle for Boy Scout Axe (I think...)

This is a hatchet i made a handle for. I bought the head for $15 at a antique tool booth at the annual wood show here in Maryland. It has fairly straight grain Ash for the handle and a Purple Heart wood (Amaranth) for a wedge. There is a large hole at the end for a lanyard if the customer (Mike) wishes to have one. You can see, i preserved the original stamp on the side of the head-"Plumb" and the Boy Scouts Of America stamp above it. I do believe this was a Boy scout Axe produced by the Plumb tool company. Overall length is just over a foot and it has a 9" (apx.) long handle. Also, per the customers request, i buffed the head to a mirror polish and applied a coat of gun blue

Nice piece of wood! You've done your homework on carrying out this hang! Hopefully the recipients will be equally appreciative.

Thanks! I have been saving the woof for a nice, small hatchet for a while now. It has taken 3 hangings to get the hang of hanging axe heads ;) I have already heard back from the customer and he really likes the hatchet!

Thanks for the compliment,
Tanner S.

thanks, hard to find large quantities of straight grain ash in my experience. It's a shame but it is what it is....

Very nice work! My complements on not only a nice job but the unique handle. That is way cool!

That's a really nice job. The handle is phenomenal and the head looks perfect! Thanks for posting.
