Well the plastic handle on my old barlow cracked and broke so I put a set of new oak scales on it. It is not perfect but I think it came out pretty nice. I will be gifting this to a very good friend who like this knife has been a faithful friend.

pulled the broken handle off and then the other side, cut the liner portion off the barlow bolster and then cleaned the steel liners up and cemented the bolsters back to the liners. The first lesson I learned was I should not have tried to glue the bolster and piece of wood at the same time, I could not see that the face side bolster had slipped a bit and it is off by a hair. So on the other side I glued the bolster first let it set and then attached the wood. After that alot of hand and dremel sanding for shape. For the final finish I used future acrylic floor cleaner and put ten coats lightly on sanding in between coatings, I used cuetips to paint it on.

Very cool, PCL! :cool::cool:
Thanks for showing us what it looks like, for describing what you did, and for pointing out a lesson learned.

Only my second folder handle completed. A little more polish on bolster and liners and blade and I will give it to my friend. Now to find a buffing wheel on the cheap!

Duco cement, very inexpensive but has worked great on alot of things I have used it on and has great reviews. Gave the knife to my friend Tuesday and he welled up pretty good and so did I, he said he would put it up and treasure and I said no way use it everyday if you can to remember our friendship over time.

Wonderful gesture, PCL; glad your friend liked it! Thanks for sharing the story. :thumbup::cool::thumbup:

I gave a OHO to a friend at work a while back. He brought it back for sharpening and when he handed it to me he seemed embarrassed by how beat up the handle was. I told him it made me feel good to see he was using it every day. He happily told he it was his everyday work knife.

Great stuff, makes you feel good. Good on you PCL.
