New handle Recon Tanto

Started working on the guard today for my Carbon V Recon Tanto. First handle ever. Wish me luck

Will do. I probably should’ve started with something cheap but oh well. I’m the all or nothing type. After the guard I’m going to start black stacked leather

Alright finally got the brass fitted up to the blade. Next I’ll start filing the notches for the offset shoulders on the blade. Let me know if you have any suggestions

I like the choice of brass. Very reminiscent of the old Cold Steel knives.

Started notching it. This part is tough

First test fit looks decent. Depth is only half way there for the notches. Hopefully it will be fitted today

Second test fit. I’m not thrilled about the gaps. Does anyone have advice for that?

That's a big chunk of brass! To fill the gaps you can use silver solder, and/or you can take a thin piece of brass shim and fit it perfectly around the tang and slide it on in front of the guard to act as a cover over the gaps

Thank you for the advise. I know I cute the brass a little large. I was scared to make it too small so I overcompensated. I do plan to take the brass down a lot. I’ll attach a couple pics of some inspiration. I like these both and maybe will try to make a mix of the two
