I think that a combination of handle styles is needed. The Fusion handle is a great step forward in comfort and useability, but there is room for a little improvement. The belly-less shape of the SAR series combined with the tapered upper butt of the ERGO and Fusion series would be the ideal shape for comfort and no hot spots. I only say this because I noticed some hot spots on the upper butt end on the SAR8, and I feel that could be remedied by dropping the butt to match the shape of the ERGO or Fusion series. Please........

i'll give ya a bump for that.

but you need someting with a swell in it.

The old Swamp Rat Ratwieler and Rat Mastiff handles are the most comfy to me.

I agree 100%. I like the handles on the NMSFNO and Sarsquatch also, but even these don't feel as perfect to me as the old Ratweiler handle.

It's pretty easy to see where the design progressed from. The ergo handles were good, but I think the RW handle was a definite improvement, and I'd love to see some version of this come out on some Busse knives (INFIWeiler??!!??).

I was going to put some pics with this, but Photobucket has decided not to work right now. I'll add them eventually.

That hotspot is the reason why I took the sandpaper to my SAR-8's G10. Knock down the sharp fins of the machining and round that corner of the butt you mentioned, and you've got a handle that really flows through your hand well for chopping. :)

Take any Ergo handle and skin the perimiter, thin the height at the index finger area and BAM, perfect as you can get IMHO (with the Fusions coming in next). Take a look at the modded Terror Monkey Ergo Handles or any of the Ergo standards or variants that were lucky enough to get this treatment:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

lol, just reread the post and got what it was aiming for.

I think there needs to me more of the ratmandu harry carry style.

or a fusion handle with a slightly larger pinky area...

Res C ....same shape as the KZ .... then add them to the KZ and a 12 inch NMBWBM ...

Without going to swappable backstraps (ala S&W M&P etc.) I wonder if it is even possible to create the perfect handle. What works for me might give you hot spots.

Seems like it would be a great experiment to do during a chop off. Have a number of people of different hand sizes and shapes run each generation of a 7.5-8.5" chopper and see if they come up with some kind of consensus after using each for hard chopping for five minutes each, or some such. My guess is leaving the Res-C offerings out of the competition might generate more useful results.

One of the nicest aspects of Busse Combat is that they are always refining their designs. Although the SHBA is one of the most coveted designs I think the Boss Streets probably has better handles.

Have to remember that the SHBA is almost a full size handle with a 5" blade and the Boss Street is a EDC type blade proportioned as such. Although they look similar in size in a photo, you really can't compare them by sight but in hand you know.
The Boss Street is a nice EDC blade.

Peter,

Either we share significant segments of DNA or ... we both simply enjoy using comfortable knives that do superior work. :D

"I'll have what he's having..."

Im with the ResC the micarta is great but it transfers shock to your hand
and IMHO NOTHING has come close to the awesomeness of
plain old ResC. Yea it doesnt look as cool but im for preformance over
looks any day.
