New handle versus classic

Hi folks,

Was wondering about your opinions of the new Sebenza handles (well, I guess they're not so new anymore), versus the "classic" handles. The classic handles look more comfortable to me, but it's difficult to tell just from pics, and I've never handled an old and new handle Sebenza right next to each other.

Thanks in advance for offering your opinion...

Joe

I should mention I'm interested strictly in performance, not aesthetics. Comfort, security, and carryability are my prime concerns.

Also, I did a search (had to change the settings to "60 days back"), and found a poll on old versus new handle styles. There were 13 responses, most favored the classic handle for the large sebenza, and aesthetics were cited (though not solely) in the couple of responses that favored the new handle.

Thanks again

Joe

Hey Joe,

I just got a new small and while my old small is at CRK getting a dual stud, I can tell I prefer the old style. I find it more comfortable in the hand and the stud is easier to get to for opening.

And personally, I like the looks of the old style better...

Everything Clay said goes double for me, I have had several of both and like the old/classic handle better.

I like the handle of the Classic better but I like the blade of the new style better. Can you order a classic with the new style blade?

I don't know re: the classic with the new style blade, but...

I mentioned I got a new new style small and I have an old style small at CRK right now for thumbstud replacement, so I can't compare them side by side right now, but the blade looks identical, as far as I can tell. It is stonewashed and I don't know if it is ATS or BG (was hoping CRK could tell me while they had it). I wonder if this was a replacement blade???

Can the Classic be ordered with a swedge?

I have both the large and small old and new style knives and the blades all look exactly the same, except for the finish.I think the Classic blades now being made are copies of very early Sebenza blades?
Matt

I had emailed CRK about this, and the reply was that they weren't offering mixing-and-matching blades -- I had asked about old-style blade in new-style handle.

Joe

They probably want you to buy 2, and switch the blades yourself

No I don't
Yes I do...

Actually I just went through the whole ordeal about having the old style blade put on the newer handle. The only alternative is to have them cut a swedge into the blade of the new style; which is what I am having done to my new inlayed sebbie. Unfortunatly I don't have a scanner and won't be able to post a pic of it when it comes. But I will be back to tell you how it looks. I'm real excited as I have seen a pic of the LDC series of sebenza's which were all made with this swedge. It really does look closer to the old style blade, but with more of fighter style blade grind to it. Does this make sense?

Hello,

I got an old Sebenza and a new baby one.

I have used (manytimes) the old one on hard wood and the handle is not confortable.

The new handle got a rounded back (like a cat when she's not happy...)
This is feeling the palm of your hand when you cut hard thicgs and your hand is shaked.

My small Sebenza is really confortable to use.
My old Sebenza looks like a beautiful weapon.

IMHO, the new handle is an improvement you can feel in your palm but speaking strickly about curves and beauty, the old one is gorgeous...

cheers,
JM

Sorry guys I'm kinda confused!

Which one is the new blade profile?
I am familiar with the old/classic handle and
new handle but am confuse which is the new blade. Is your classic pair 3-50 the new blade.(standard on the classics?)
