New Hatchet to me

I just picked up this hatchet. I was looking at the blade curve profile and wondered how much wear it looks to have. I am new to hatchets especially used ones. There seems to be more of a curve on this one than i see on others but thinking that it could also depend on the style of blade curve. I would appreciate any thoughts on this hatchet.

To me it look like it is pretty much new but banged around condition, I don't see any reason to think is has been used much at all. It appears to have been made with a curved profile , similar to but not quite as attractive as the old Plumb axes.

It was listed as a Plumb Permabond 12". I liked the look of it and needed something small for my pack. It feels well balanced. At this point will just sharpen and use.

I would like to keep the look of the handle but just do some weatherproofing but not sure if that is doable.

If I use the Linseed Oil method should i sand the handle first?

Red paint on handles is what makes Plumb a Plumb. I would put linseed oil straight, like it is. If it loosens flaking paint, than you will just wipe it off and apply another layer of oil.
