First off I'd like to say hello to the folks who frequent here. I spend most of my time in the W&SS, but stop by here often to see what is new. Like you all, I have a bit of a soft spot for axes and hawks and figured since I just got a new one I might as well show it off. Maker's photo's, not mine. Though I wish I had a few chickens running around the yard!

Here it is:

It was forged by a gentleman named Brian Otto from Michigan. The head and body are 1018 mild steel and the cutting edge is 5160. The haft is 18.5" and carved from Hickory.

As long as I'm here I'll show you some of the goods.

A camp axe and two hawks. The hawks were made by a friend of mine Brian Forrest.

Hatchet on the left was made by Curt Lyles of Indiana and the Bag axe on the right by Stephen Osborne from the forums here.

Norlund double bit hatchet.

An old Kelly True Temper Cruiser in need of some TLC. My intentions are to clean it up and rehandle it. I figured it would make a fun project.

One of my favorites, my JK hatchet. Made by John Kiedaisch over on the knifemaker's forum.

I have two GB's. A small forrest axe and a hunter's axe. Plus another small double bit hatchet like the Norlund, but it is unmarked. I have no idea who made it. It too needs some TLC.

That about sums up my axes, hawks and hatches.... Don't even get me started on knives!

I'm looking forward to being a more active and less lurking participant to this forum. Enjoy the pics and thanks.

I got to try that last hatchet at Bush Bash I and can attest to its chopping effectiveness. Since I didn't barf it up, I'm hoping to get a chance to try the newest one in the first image!:D

Great hawks and axes.Who made that long knife in the 5th picture from the top?Loving those spike hawks too.

heck of a intro post with all the axe and hawk pron:thumbup:

i like all the traditional tools you have. Nothing will ever replace the look of wood and plain uncoated steel for me even though i often use tools made of modern synthetics for the durability. i'm always being torn in two directions every time i pack my gear.

I'm with you on that one.

Per the seller's info:
"The handle is secured in place using a special epoxy designed just for that purpose."

The two spike hawks in the pics from my buddy Brian are done the same way, I had my doubts at frist, but they seem pretty damn secure. Granted....I'm not throwing them either! :D

Really like the new one and all the others too !

All of your gear is cool! But the "Brian Otto" axe looks outstanding to me. That is a very sweet design. When you receive it I hope you will post some more photos?;)

Thats one heck of a nice collection. Does Brian Forrest and Brian Otto make hawks for resale to others? I especially like the pcs made by them.

Inded they do. Both actually are on ebay. Mr. Otto's has a website too. Brian is a bit old school and honesty can hardly turn a computer on let alone use it. But his wife does their ebay store. He does a lot of local knife shows and what not.

The Otto's website is walkbyfaith777 dot com. Walkbyfaith777 is their ebay ID as well.

Brian's ID is forrestforge

Thanks for all of the kind comments guys. I am quite proud of my hawks and axes and though you all would get a kick out of them. Now I need to rehab that big double bit.

I love that knife. I actually bought it not knowing anything about Mr. Keeler. It was sold to me under a different maker's name, but could not match touchmarks to that maker so in my endless search for cool forged blades I came across some touchmarks that matched and realized I had a Beaver Bill blade. I have heard his hawks and axes are pretty sweet too.
