I need help finding a new handle for my Great River Forge Hawk...and I guess for my Craig Barr and Cold Steel too. I would like to find one that doesn't need too much modification. I love the GRF hawk but I really hated the handle. Just too small for the hawk. I tried to modify if for my Barr hawk head but there's a lot of gap.The smaller size is really a pretty good size for the smaller hawk head, I guess I just suck at modifying it to fit. I tried my Cold Steel Norse hawk handle on the GRF hawk but it wobbled back and forth badly like the hawk head didn't have enough taper top to bottom or the handle had too quick of a taper. I don't know that I could fit somthing like a sledge handle and do a very good job. Any advise or recommendations are appreciated.

Great River Forge Hawk's use a different Handle there 18" and there all small at the end, But this replacement Handle Is for Keith's Hawk's, This Site carry's Great River Forge Hawk's also http://www.trackofthewolf.com/(S(h1...tId=9&subId=60&styleId=233&partNum=HANDLE-STD And here's a Site where you can get Standard 19" Handle's they'll fit Cold Steel Hawk's and Coal Creek Forge and most other's with the same eye, http://www.black-bear-haversack.com/product_info.php/cPath/220_831/products_id/2705

I aint had no problem's with the Hawk Head to Handle fit with my Great River Forge Hawk's, These are all from Keith "Great River Forge" The two on the right are the Large French Style "One of my Favorite Style's In the World of TomaHawk's ! And the far left Is the Large American and second from the left Is my GRF Camp Axe/Hawk "Keith did a Great Job on this one,

And a close up on the Large American Throwing Hawk on the left, Camp Axe/Hawk on the right, I kinda like the 18" Handle's they are smaller at the base than 19" Handle's, But for my small hand's they are a perfect fit, I could see If you have Big Hand's It might take some getting use to, Maybe a Para-Cord wrap would take care of that,

I've had several people bring their Barr hawk's to me and drift the teardrop to acceppt a standard hawk handle they wanted all their stuff to interchange with each head, maybe find a local Black smith close by you and have them do the same, make's handle shopping and swapping awhole lot easier,i get my handle's from Crazy Crow, item number is 4934-121-102 Best of luck

Thanks for the links. I hope one of these days I'll be able to shape my own. What exactly does it mean to "drift" the teardrop on the hawk head?

It's a teardrop tapered tool made out of ductile iron that give's you the proper taper when drivin thru your blank that allow's the taper of the handle to interference fit in the Hole, visualize an egg standing on end only somewhat smaller,i try to drift all my hawk's to the max so i get full use out of the handle
