This is another no frills hunting Hawk.
The handle is 19.5" and the Head weighs 24 oz.
The handle is Birdseye Maple and is stained using homemade Aquafortis.

The head is browned using a Nitric/Sulfuric browner very close to Aquafortis and it is homemade also.

Sorry for the bad picture. I need to work on that someday!

I am not a knifemaker but this is very beautiful work. I will have to try this someday.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you Padrig. I specialize in building somewhat ugly cutting instruments to be used rather than admired. :D
I can't take much credit for the wood...God made that, I just shaped it!

Peter, if this is ugly, I am shooting for ugly from now on ;)

Don't get me wrong, the more elaborate pieces are nice but for me, the real talent is being able to show beauty through simple lines. Something much harder to do than just adding bells and whistles to something. Something I see in this "Hawk".

Any other pics of your work online?

Hey Peter,

You cant use the word "Ugly" to describe your work  . I've got the patent and trademark on ugly :D

Nice lookin hawk by the way. It's amazing what we find when you start telling folks you make knives. I've got a co-worker that was worried about how to get rid of a gallon of full strength hydrocloric. he aint worried no more. :)

Don't know about "Ugly", functional, clean, usefull seem to better describe it. :D Love the haft, what's with the bevel on the edge? Looks like it's wider at the bottom than top?

Peter, That hawk is a nice user. The only way you would be able to improve its looks is to imbed it in the skull of an Iraqi terrorist!

Thanks everyone!

It's just the picture Will. I had all kinds of glare and it looks funny...I guess I should set up a light box.

Peter, you are perhaps the best period piece maker I have seen on this forum. I really like your hawk, fella! Your hawk seems to me to be more like what was available at the time. Very nice work, fella!

looks like a good using tool to me along with a good thrower. I was expecting to see a hawk with changeable polls, hows that one coming along? nice job Peter.

That's coming along pretty well Bill. I finished one but didn't like the looks of it so went back to the drawing board. It worked well but was too ugly even for me. :o

John, that's the nicest compliment I ever got. It's not true but thanks anyway!

Will you guys please stop posting these beautiful 'hawks?!! :D

Actually, keep 'em coming! ;)
