How's it going guys?

I have lately been getting more and more interested in carrying traditional pattern knives.

I have had a couple for a few years now, but actually carrying them has been pretty questionable as I have been working in a bad place in the city for that time. I still work there, but I have realized that if some kind of confrontation were to happen, that a knife wouldn't really help me as much as my body could.

So, I want to start carrying more-simple tools with me as I also have a tool box nearby when at work, and I'm very mechanically savvy, so I can seem to get through most situations with my hands and common sense.

Having told my life story, back to the knives.

I have only bought Case knives as far as traditional patterns go. I really like them, and every one I have bought has been of great quality (trapper ss, med stockman ss, and cv large stockman).

The stockman pattern is easily my favorite (with the spey blade), partly because I am a hunter, and also because my grandfather has carried nothing but the same stockman knife for years and years and years. I have said it before, but I am a pretty sentimental person.

I am asking specifically about Hen and Rooster knives because (at least reading about them here) they have been portrayed to me as the best quality traditional knives that I can buy and carry everyday.

Do they use carbon steel in their knives? How does it compare to Case's CV (that's really the only real carbon steel that I have any experience with)?

What I want to know is do they really still make them, or are the ones that I see on ebay that look brand new made somewhere else other then where they were made back in their early days?

Also, is Hen and Rooster a good brand of knife to buy? I know that some guys will prefer some brands over others, but I am wondering if their new knives are even on your guys' radar.

If not Hen and Rooster for a good knife, what are a couple of other companies that are better as far as a quality knife?

Edit: I read my post after I posted it and even though I didnt mean to offend anyone, I thought that I would get a lot of flak for it, so I took it down-hence this explanation.

I apologize for this post guys. Mods, feel free to delete.

-On with the thread and my original questions.

Well, if you fancy a carbon Stockmann, Böker do a very good one indeed and the Whittler too.

As far as I know, H&R are OK stainless knives but not of the quality of 2 decades or more back. Hence my Böker suggestion.

Here is a pic of my H and R purchased about a month ago. Fit and finish is outstanding, blades are stamped "Solingen Germany" and are stainless. Takes a crazy edge and holds it decently. Pull is about 5/10 (a little lighter than an alox SAK if that helps).

I have the H&R with stag scales and damascus blades and I love it. F&F is near perfect and has a stong snap both on the open and close. Not too familiar with the standard production knives.
