hi ya'll, first post here.

i was approached about trading a large fixed bladed knife for a little xm-18 3 1/2" flipper. i have carried a zt 301 since 07 and am wondering if the xm will be a good edc. i use most of my knive's like they owe me money. i take care of them, but am not afraid to stick one someplace most would think twice. what i am trying to get at is are the xm's as tough as hype that surround's them. i'm not trying to stir up anybody, i'm just really curious. i have seen a few video's on them, but no real world use yet. any help is welcome, and thank ya for your time.

If that 0301 has been holding up to your use for all this time, the XM will be fine. It is equally (at least) as tough as the 301 and is an incredible knife. I carry my 3.5" XM every day and I get peace of mind having it on me since it has never failed me in any way. I've used it for everything from opening packages, to food prep, to cutting through small branches. If you really needed it too, I wouldn't doubt that it could hold up to light- moderate prying. I've used knives to pry before that weren't nearly as beefy for light prying tasks and never had an issue with those. I think you would be very happy with that XM. Also, its a tough knife you can have on you all day. That big 'ol fixed blade, not so much.

Relax and join right in, it's all good here.

It's not hype if it's backed up. These knives have yet to let me down. Others have harder use than myself I'm sure, but I use mine without hesitation for whatever task. Now, that said, if I have a tree to fell I'll break out a chainsaw, a tree that needs a few breaches removed gets a fixed blade, but for most everyday tasks the XMs excell. And I am very confident that if I had to do something very abusive with my Hinderers to say save another or myself, they won't fail me.

I rarely take user photos because it's difficult to focus a camera and use the tool simultaneously. That said, I'll look in the bucket and see what photos I have on hand.

Shaving a treated 2x4 just for the heck of it.

I can take more...I EDC at least one XM. EVERY DAY, not a rotation.

You will be happy with the 3.5 Flipper, not a question in my mind. If you have more concerns let us try and assist.
