I'll start off by saying that while I am actually "new" to a membership here, I have certainly done a lot of lurking.

Today, after countless hours of research through tons of forum posts and YouTube videos, I am now a new Large Sebenza 21 with Micarta inlays owner and couldn't be happier. I want to thank everyone for tons, upon tons, upon tons of fantastic information. I've owned many knives in the past and still currently do, mainly production folders and some fixed blades from mostly Benchmade with some SOG's and other little Bucks, Swiss Army, ect...

I mainly carried a Benchmade 710 (which my dad introduced me to Benchmade) and swore by it and being young and new to knives, I thought Benchmade was where it's at. Ive collected a good amount of them over the years and have always been extremely happy with them. I distinctively remember buying a new Onslaught and taking it over to my dads house to let him check it out. He then went upstairs into his safe and brought a knife down for me to see. Said it was THE BEST. I looked it over and just kind of blew it off, as I was sold on benchmade and didn't think anything of it. We'll now about 6 years later, I finally lost my 710 and was looking on Benchmade's website for a replacement knife. Nothing really jumped out at me like I just had to have it. So I started looking at knife reviews and different forum posts which opened up an entire world of knives than the world I'd been living in, and my search kept pointing to one knife in specific. THE SEBENZA. So out of curiosity, I called my dad and asked him what that knife was in his safe he showed me years ago, and I'll be damned if it wasn't a Sebenza with Snakewood Inlays....figures the Old Man would have had one all along. The same knife I blew off being young and naive. Some coincidence!! So I took the plunge and got MY very own Large 21 Micarta and am thrilled. AND ILL SAY, THERE IS ONE HELL OF A QUALITY DIFFERENCE THAT YOU JUST HAVE TO FEEL TO BELIEVE.

Sorry for the Ramble, but I've done so much reading on here that it seems like I know you guys and just had to tell my story

Anyways, On to my questions:

I just looked inside the knife with a flashlight and noticed the date stamp on the scales. "C13" which they both match, but the birthdate of my knife is October 15th, 2014. Does that seem right? If I'm understanding the scale date stamp, it would mean they were made in later 2013?

The knife's DOB is not the same as the date of the parts. The scales were produced in tne 3rd quarter of 2013. The knife was assembled on 10-15-14.

This. I have a Sebenza 25 marked B13 with a DOB of mid 2014, an Umnumzaan marked B13 with a DOB of mid 2014 and a 2010 DOB StarTac marked B10.

The CRK bug has bit me hard, as you can see. They are such incredible knives.

Awesome....Thanks for the info.

I can honestly say I have never been so impressed with the quality of workmanship of a knife. Everything about this just seems perfect

Congratulations for getting a Sebenza, it will serve you well and be dependable for years to come. Even though the Sebenza is not for everyone, it does call out to most and as you know it's not until you can examine the knife can you really appreciate the craftsmanship that makes the Sebenza what it is. Even though it is not eye candy for some, I find it the best all around knife I have ever owned.

It's the only thing I've ever seen rival my Kimber Eclipse ;)

Guess you'll be a new regular on the CRK subforum on BF. Congrats! So... when will you start selling your BMs to get more Sebs?

I came to CRK from Benchmade as well. Nothing wrong with a Benchmade at all. Great knife! CRK is in a class of its on and I'm thankful that I have a 21 clipped to my pocket most days.

Congratulations and Welcome to the CRK Family. The date on the scales is when the scales were made, not necessarily the knife. C13 would have been made in either July, August, September in 2013. I have them with scales that have different dates on each, and thats not uncommon either.
Check out my CRK Timeline on the CRK Forum Page at the Top of the page where the "Stickys" are. TON's of info there for you, including the date stamping you asked about.

Enjoy...!!!

Perfect. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the info. If I'd have known, I could have avoided the rant....although it does feel good to get it off my chest to people who "Understand". I keep trying to show my wife the Sebenza....it's not the same lol. She just doesn't get it.

lol, few women do, though we do have several Ladies on the CRK page that have some impressive examples of CRK. Having owned 50+ sebenzas, I know what its like and I still get excited when one is inbound :D

I too am a new sebenza person.

They are great knives. I've been working mine into my carry rotation.

The man makes a great product

Congrats on your Sebbie! I haven't made the jump to that level, but I'm sure I will someday.

Enjoy your knife, man. Use it!

Just wait until your 'benza looks as beautiful as this :D

And here's my 'Zaans.

The StarTac I rescued from a local pawn shop for an excellent price. The edge needs a lot of love because the previous owner did a terrible job sharpening it, but it's still beautiful to me. Gotta love that titanium patina.

Congratulations on your Sebbie! I'm new to CRK as well. I just got mine a month or so ago and couldn't be happier. Funny, I was carrying a 710 prior to this as well. My car was stolen in South Atlanta with the 710 and a Sprint run PM2. But on the upside, I now have a Sebenza!!

That sucks! Yeah I try to never leave anything more than my buck in my car when I'm not with it. On occasion however I am guilty of leaving my seb in my car when I'm at college.

I love my large regular Sebenza and have never once regretted spending that kind of money on it. It really is that fine. And I dearly love my 710 in D2 as well! The Sebbie has enough self confidence that it doesn't mind. Congrats on the new "bank vault". I hope you carry the heck out of it!
