So I got this from my uncle who recently passed and I'd like to get some info on it. Not that I will ever sell it, but I'd like to get a price value. I took it into Benchmade, which is just a couple miles from me, and they told me to come here.

Thanks.

It is a 960 SLV but I am not sure of the limited edition. What colors are the handle inserts (blue or black?) and the backspacer running on the top of the knife (red or purple?)

Black inserts and Purple backspacer.

Yeah I see that now. It's kinda dumb but I get it.. Like I said, I'm not going to sell, just curious.

Thanks

That's not an slv, that's the over version with the stainless frame. Also looks to be the black mother of pearl inlays? And what looks like BC1 coating on the blade? It's very similar to the 960-01... only serrated and with the BC1 coating, not sure what that makes this one.

Unless I just can't see correctly and that's just a black G10 inlay, then I would call it the 960SBC1-20? I think... maybe...

It's pearl inlay. That is what BM told me. As for numbers, it says 960 under the butterfly, 154cm, limited edition 25/50, U.S. Patent 5737841. Since you can't tell me a value, can you tell me if I can EDC this or should I put this on the shelf in the armoire and just look at it? My uncle had good taste so I think it could be something. .

Welcome to the forums. Like most collectibles, more wear and tear = less monetary value. It is a nice piece, i'd carry it and think of your uncle everytime you cut something. Pass it onto your kids some day, it would make a nice item to hand down.

Well, the biggest problem with this knife is that it is half serrated. For most collectors that is a big downer. Also collectors like to have the original box. While this is a rare knife, they made a million limited versions of the 960, and I don't believe this is one particularly sought after. If it didn't have serrations I'd say someone would pay 200-300 dollars for it easily. With the serrations though, I think 200 would be the most you could expect and you'd have to find just the rights buyer. It's a great knife, one of the better inlay materials I feel, but it isn't the 960 configuration most enthusiasts are looking for. This is all my opinion, and could be way off. RXEnergy would be the guy to ask, but I'm not sure he posts much these days.

Deathofallthings has pretty much hit the nail on the head here. It is an older stainless steel model. Most likely with a model number as such "960SBC1-?? Osborne SS W/Pearl". The knife is too similar to the 960-01 to generate a value that compares to it. The black serrated blade and no box hurts its value and will keep collectors away.
Honestly, if you wish to carry it and use it then you should. The dollar value that it may have may not be worth the memories and sentiment it would cost you to part with it.

Yep... You can carry and use the knife, and still keep it nice. The memories you make carrying it with you, will far outweigh the small monetary gain, if you sold it.
It's a nice knife. Enjoy it.
